I have an MX-850 for a while, it's really great.

Now, I'm wondering if the RF functionality can be learned or programmed to control my ceiling fan. This fan is controlled via one of those RF add-ons you can get at Home Depot which controls the light and fan rotation intensity.

I think the MX-850 RF can only talk to the base station and not a universal or learning item like the IR, right? If this is the case, does anyone now how one could control an RF appliance from the MX-850?

Thank a bunch!

No. No remote can learn RF. Thus the only remote to ever control an RF device is the original remote.

Now, there's other options that you may consider, like Lutron ceiling fan controls.

Thank you very much for the response and pointer to Lutron IR controllers, OTAHD.

Lutron may be a better way to go than the other alternative I can think of, X10.

Comment: This sounds like a real opportunity for some manufacturer
to investigate. Many automobiles have the ability to learn RF
for garage door openers, so the doors can be operated directly from
the car. It should be possible to do the same thing with some home
appliance RF controls.
I love the sound of bagpipes when I'm mourning.
