I just purchased a new MX-350. This is my 4th remote from URC, so I am rather familiar with how they work and how to program them. But this one appears to have a problem, and before I return it I would like to seek some input from some of you gurus here.

Problem:

I cannot get the remote to accept ANY codes for ANY devices. The programming process aborts and returns to the Main Menu (as if I had pressed MAIN twice) at the point where the code-entry screen should appear. Here's what I'm doing:

a. Press MAIN & ENT for 3 seconds.
b. Press P-PRO.
c. Use the UP/DOWN cursor buttons until the desired device name flashes. Then press SELECT. The prompt at the bottom of the display flashes FROM DEVICE.
d. Use the UP/DOWN cursor buttons again until the desired component type flashes. Then press SELECT. According to the manual (and my previous experience with 3 other URC remotes), the screen should change to one that allows me to use the number keys to enter the appropriate 3-digit code. Instead, the screen immediately returns to the Main Menu, having exited the programming mode altogether.

Am I missing something simple, or is this remote just defective?

Defective

Confirmed. I got my hands on another MX-350, and it works perfectly. So the first one is going back...

Thanks!

Where did you buy it? Defective remotes are rare.

I ordered it through Amazon.com ([Link: amazon.com])

But it shipped from some outfit called "Electronics Expo". They were quite a bit less expensive than the other options available (One Call, and Vanns for example). Perhaps I'm finding out why.

I followed the Return Authorization request procedure (via email) outlined on Amazon's website, but have not yet received a reply. We'll see...
