You can try updating the firmware, however often the only fix for this is to send it in to URC.

You can do it by downloading your configuration - if it doesn't work the first time try several times. If that STILL doesn't work then it probably needs URC to do a factory flash on it (although there will probably be a fee).

You can also try searching this forum for others who have had this issue to see if there are other tips.

hi

I tried several times to download. It goes about 50% and then repeatedly pops a message saying Invalid Protocol. then stops at 50%. I will take your advice and try repeatedly.

Meanwhile any help on sending it to the manufacturer will be appreciated. Anyone here tried sending it back to the manufacturer? What kind of fee should I anticipate?

thanks

With S&H both ways it will cost you about as much as replacing it. I have a couple of MX-800's and an MX-850 that I no longer need if you need to replace it.

hi

I just called Customer support and they asked me to ship it. When I asked about cost, they said "No Charge". I was shocked. Do you think I will be slapped a bill later?

Thanks

If they say no charge, it'll be no charge! I wouldn't worry about that.

Thanks again. Just when I was ready to mail it, I replaced new baterries and now the RAM FAIL reads RAM EMPTY.

Not that it makes any difference as I still cannot download any code back to the remote. Just letting you guys know that the messsage is different.

Thanks
V

I think Best Buy sells RAM refills. They are right next to the Plasma refill kits.
Sorry, I could not resist.

You have a pretty common problrm for that model and they have been fixing them at no charge.

Thanks. I have sent it out. Hopefully this isnt a recurring problem. I asked then why it happened, and their reponse was "Rare case of component degradation". Obviously not a rare case if what you say is true.

Do a search here. It is not terribly rare but slightly common. I think static shock may be erasing the memory but this is only a theory as the only one I ever saw with this problem was from a customer with a velour couch on a dry day in the middle of winter and the client claimed that the remote shocked him before it died. I think he may have shocked themote is more like it.

I have managed to get an extremely worn MX-700 to come back from a RAM FAIL (then EMPTY) condition... but I'm not sure what put it in that state to start with.

I dont recall getting shocked from the remote. Obviously I can only assume it was my doing even though neither my couch or myself have anything remotely resembling velour at the time of the incident. I was attempting to increase volume on the amp. As it did, the screen appeared frozen. After waiting few mins, I decided to take the baterries out and put it back in. (since there is no hard reset on this remote) . Then I noticed it running TEST and displayed RAM FAIL.

Is there a way to protect remotes from static shock?

Keep them under water, but I think that may present some other issues. LOL
