I recently purchased the TX-1000 thinking that I would be able to use this device to replace the lost remote for my Sony STR-DB840. Any idea how I can get the TX-1000 to work with my Sony STR-DB840.

Are you saying the codes in the IR database don't work? If so, you may need to change your receiver's IR code from AV2 to AV1. Take a look at this thread.
