Yes well the title sums it up. I have a DA50ES receiver that came with the rm-tp501 remote. I broke the glass on the remote and now I need to fix it or buy another. Sony said that it would cost $380 to replace, I say hell no. They tell me it can't be fixed.
I need to fix it or get one that can replace it (or a reasonable facsimile with the same functions).
Thank you.

Try a cheap universal remote from around $20 to $100. Alternately the remote that came with the Sony 925 receiver and Sony 333es receiver will also work all the functions at half the price.

Regards,

John.

PS. In a way it may be a good thing that the original broke, as it is well known that this is one of the worst remotes ever to come with an original component receiver. Know you have an excuse to buy one thats more useful.

I might be a little late replying to this thread, but I'm going to anyways ;) (I found it while searching for infroamtion on the TP501E remote)

Call Sony's customer service number and tell them that your remote isn't working... DON'T tell them that the glass is cracked... just that it's not working any longer (it worked yesterday, yea I tried new batteries, etc. etc.) -- they will have you sent it to their service center and they will send out a referbished one to you -- they won't even look at the remote you send in... it goes into the referb pile... when somebody does look at it they'll think the cracked glass happened in shipping or during their handling of it.

Wow, the stock remote is even more money than a Pronto. I wonder what the cost would be for the 777ES receiver that has learning capability.
