I got it before I brought the Blu-Ray. Now I would like to create a button for the "Power ON" and another for the "Power OFF".

Well thats an easy answer from someone else who owns both formats. Simply HD DVD is alot more consistant while blu ray is hit or miss. I would say out of all of the bluray titles to be released 10 actually look good and the rest are over compressed garbage IMO, while on the HD DVD side I would have to say maybe 10 look bad and the rest are awesome. If you haven't seen batman begins or chronicles of riddick on HD DVD you have no idea what you are missing.

Also batman begins has an excellent Dolby TruHD soundtrack that will give your system a workout.

While I still think Bluray may win in the long run if they get there act together, HD DVD is clearly the superior format at this time when it comes to quality content. Dont take my word for it! read any review on the internet regarding the 2 formats.

It pretty simple:

HD DVD = VHS

BlueRay = Betamax

Who will win?

:-))))

Best regards,

Right, if Sony can DELIVER them :-)

Well, it's a very sad story that the VHS vers BETAMAX vers VIDEO2000 (was very popoular here in Europe) disaster will happen again! I will not buy any of this alpha hardware until it's stable and good movies (in good quality) are on the market and we will see, which system will survive.

BTW: Philips' iPronto was an "alpha-release" too when they delivered it :-)

Best regards,

Kalle

Yes there are alot of good movies on Bluray right now, but 90% off them look horrible overly compressed and just not worth the upgrade.

HD DVD however has a stellar production line up and things always seem to look amazing. Also they have just as many excellent movies available.

PS3 will have bluray which is big and one of the reasons I mentioned bluray may win, but the X360 will have an HD DVD add on and if the PQ stays as rock solid as it has been, reviews will keep making bluray look bad in the consumers eye.

Personally I hope the better format wins and if Sony doesn't step up to the plate and smarten up I will keep telling everyone that asks me to go HD DVD for the time being.

Keep in mind this is just my opinion from someone who owns both formats and really only cares about quality. I mean we pay so much for our systems, why not feed them the best signals we possibly can.

Hi Sebastien

I used the following pcf file to extract the required codes works great. You will need to download the ProntoNG editor (which you can get off Remote Central or from the Philips Pronto website) so that you can read a pcf file.

Hope that this helps.

Hi pmatthews:
Only "Power ON" is working fine. "Power OFF" didn't work.

Perhaps because either format might win out, and... you can get a HD-DVD player for less than half the cost of a Blu-Ray player.

I'm not going to go into sabre rattling and "My Spectrum is better than your C64 arguments" but Dan, that is a silly statement.

A lot of goods movies are on both formats.

Technically both are about equal. HD-DVD had a codec advantage but thats slowly eroding. At present there are more HD-DVD movies and the dual release movies have a better PQ on HD-DVD. At moment HD-DVD is region free but in about a year it prob won't be.

Not every PS3 will be used for watching BD movies. It's safe to say that each HD-DVD 360 drive will.

It will all come down to the number of media sold. Once a single format gets a decent foothold studios that are camped in one format will start releasing films on both formats and that will be the beginning of the end.

But then only a small % of PS3 users need to start buying BD media for this to happen. But how many will?

At present I'm backing HD-DVD and if BluRay catches on I'll buy a BD recorder and use that to watch movies.

Power OFF, while listed as a discrete code for the HD-A1 and XA1 in both IR and RS232, is not implemented in the player. Hoping this will be resolved with a firmware upgrade. :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------there will be 6million ps3 in USA as of march 07. Blu-ray is backed by all these companys (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson).it won't be long before optical drives arrive that can handle both formats, and once such hardware goes mainstream, disc formats largely cease to matter since whatever you buy will play. hddvd will probaly win though just because of the name, most people dont know what the hell a bluray disc is but they know dvd!!!
