I just purchased an iPronto. I have the following questions?

1. Does the remote only learn. Are there no codes built in?
2. Is the only way to upload from the edit software through a wireless connection or can I do it through a memory card?
3. My router shows the remote conecting, but requesting or getting assigned a DHCP? I have tried to use fixed, but that doesn't seem to work either? Any ideas?
4. If I go with learning, is there a better instruction book somewhere? The supplied manual is worthless.

Thanks for your help. I am sure there will be more questions to come

1) There are alot of built in codes. You can view them all in the software
2) You can do it via wireless or memory card
3) DOuble check your DNS settings on the wireless page. Also, your routers DCHP settings and security settings (WEP, Filtered IP addresses etc.).
4) Learning is pretty simple. Make you page with the buttons you want. Load it on the Ipronto. switch the Ipronto to learn mode thrugh the left hand menu selection. Select the button to match and point the original remote at it and press the button.

Go to the properties in the PC software for a device to switch to the pre-programmed codes you want.

Hope it helps.

The only way to program the remote without the software is to use the learn function on the determined screens? Is this correct?

Will memory card automatically load?

To load the memory card you need to go to one of the admin screens, the lower right arrow that flips the screen. I do not remember which screen. Try the EPG or Remote screens and flip them. Then you can access the screen to load the memory card. I have always used the software, I think that is how it was designed. Go to the phillips website and download the manual and operating guide. The ipronto can take you there too. They are more in depth and should be able to help you. Also, the help in the PC software may have some answers.

Grimmace told you how to learn, but he didn't tell you that learned codes are generally more reliable than any you will extract from a database. I strongly recommend that you either learn your codes or copy them from files that have been posted on Remote Central. The code schema for iPronto is identical to that used for the classic and NG Prontos, so if you don't find what you want in the iPronto files section, look at the Pronto Classic and Pronto NG sections for files that include your equipment. You can access those ccf and pcf files using the appropriate editors that you can download and install free. They are available both here on Remote Central and on the Philips Pronto website.

Actually, I never thought about that. I have only used learned codes, or discrete codes from this website. Plus you see other screen setups too.

The formats and codes associated with icf files are essentially identical to those associated with pcf and ccf files. Because a lot more small Prontos are sold than iProntos, the regular Pronto forums and files sections on Remote Central are a rich resource for iPronto users for graphics, macros and IR codes.

The codes that you can copy from other people's files are often superior to learned codes, because they may have been optimized by an expert. For example, I learned all of the codes for a DirecTV HR10-250 and found that they were sometimes unreliable. The I copied them off someone else's pcf file and they are now 100% reliable! I don't know enough to explain why, but there you have it.

How do you import a new background? Can you copy a background from a downloaded system file?

You can use any picture as a background, jpg or bmp, I believe. You need to go through the PC software though. It sounds like you want to do allot on the remote itself. You cannot do much there, you have to use the PC software to unlock all the features and use the remote to it's full potential (as Phillips as limited it).

I have been using the remote software. Everything you have told me thus far has been a great help and I am on my way to building my complete system. I have only been able to use backgrounds from other remote configuration files found on this website (thanks again). What do I need to do to format a new background and import it into the remote.

Thanks again. From what I see coming out from Philips and Harmony, I may be a little late on buying this remote, but so far I like it. From the reviews I read, I think people just expected to much from this rmeote. Thanks

To import a backgroud you can make a panel and then import the picture in to it. Just make sure the dimisions are close to the screen size.

What do I
need to do to format a new background and import it into
the remote.

A background is nothing more than an image created in bmp, png, or jpg format. I recommend png as the best format for Prontos. The full iPronto screen is 630x470 pixels. (Could be a couple of pixels less in each dimension). If you want a background that covers the screen you need to make your background graphic or photo that size using a graphics program like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. Once you have it the way you want it and sized it correctly, save it as a png file (use the PNG Export command in Paint Shop Pro).

Then create a panel on the screen (Insert/Panel) into which you want the background to appear. Go to Properties/Appearance Tab and import your graphic.
