Hey, does anyone have any feedback or input on any PC software's out there to turn a "tablet PC" (or windows laptop) into an ipronto style remote control? In otherwords, the same or similar graphics and remote codes I have running on my ipronto could also be made to run as a full screen software on a small tablet PC with I assume even more functions as long as it has a built in IR port of course...

I know of plam and pocket PC programs that do this. Try searching them and see if one has a Windows counter part.

I've been suggesting this for a long time. Given the new mini-tablet PCs, the application seems obvious. I actually contacted a few companies about this. One of them, Apple, said it was not permitted to accept new product suggestions from non-employees!!!!

I wish I spoke Korean. Some of the Korean companies are making platforms that are perfect. Those same companies already make remotes for their consumer electonics products. I suppose it is tough to get the computer and CE divisions of any big company to communicate.

Interesting input. I searched as much as I could but only PocketPC programs came up for universal remote control of home theater equiptment. but it is a tough thing to search for as the keywords bring up remote desktop programs.

I own a 10 year old web development firm, W5 internet. So I have the man power and designers to pay to have a software like this created, I guess. I was just hoping anyone on this site may have heard of a windows XP software that could be installed on a Tablet PC and make the whole sceen look and work as an iPronto would. Seems like somthing some software maker may have thought of already.

I know allot of talented guys have made CarPC programs/interfaces to run MiniPC's in your car, of which I have one. I may contact one of those guys and see if they have the tools nessasary to make somthing of this nature.

Anyone else with any feedback on this. let us know!

The perfect solution would be to make iProntoEdit software that lets you run an emulation of your ICF file, full screen using the IR output of the tabletPC to test the screens and IR codes. Bingo a tablet PC universal remote. That would do the trick! Wishful Thinking...

I came up with these two sites with a quick search
1) [Link: ee.washington.edu]
Owners description This page gives some information on a PC based IR remote control system I've developed for computer control of TV, video, satellite and hifi equipment etc.

2) [Link: features.engadget.com]

url has what it does.

There where other sites too, but these seemed the most promising.

I have actually seen that guys site somewhere and it seems he has made it quite complex. Still would love to find a boxed software solution/application.

It seems to me the best solution would be a Software that could run an emulation of an ICF file full screen. Then we could still use the ProntoEdit to create the interface and then run the emulator to make it work on a PC or tabletPC using the built in IR transmitter.

I am going to discuss this with my software designers and see what we can come up with.

Anyone else have any input? Perhaps the people that have hacked the iProntos firmware can provide some feedback on creating a PC based emulator?

May have found some solutions?:

NetRemote has a PC based version that runs CCF files from prontos. It goes full screen and seams like it may work good. not sure if it can fun ICF iPronto files but it is a start...

Also PDAWin has TV Remote that runs CCF but not sure if it runs on XP yet?

Checking on some others I found...

I posted the following on the Pronto NG forum. Might ultimately be relevant to this thread.

"IBM hosts an annual brainfest at its Almaden research facility. One of the presenters provided details of a device he's dubbed "Lil' Me." I won't rewrite all of the details, but it's a handheld device that is a voice and video phone, music player, electronic car lock opener, has GPS, and, in case you lose it, it transmits its position, flashes credit card info to cash registers, only allows people who pass its retinal scan to use it, and last, but not least is a home entertainment system touch screen remote control! The presenter, an IBM middle manager, says that all of the technology needed already exists, and that a device that looks like his description of Lil Me should be available within 2 years."
