I just bought an ipronto.

I've failed to get anywhere in 6 hours. If I set 'Flag for Update' to 'YES' and resume I then get a message 'Unable to detect the network card'.

If I set 'Flag for Update' to 'NO' and resume I get some music, a message about cleaning the system and then a screen with 'ipronto' and wavy lines around the 'o' which go on for ever.

I can't do anything else!

I'd appreciate any advice - am I missing something or should I assume this is a faulty unit and ask for my money back?

Well, I guess the frst question since I don't know whether this is a new or used unit... there is a Philips-branded PCMCIA WiFi network card installed in the unit?

I bought it as new from a dealer - and yes there is a Philips wifi card installed. I've tried taking it out and replacing it several times and the physical connection seems to be good. Unfortunately I don't have another PCMCIA card to swap it with.

Check to see if the network card has any lights illuminated on it. Also, when resetting, hold down the scroll wheel until you get a special menu popup. This should allow you to manually enter your network information (early iPronto firmware had real problems with DHCP).

I have tried this. Both DHCP and fixed IP addressing. Also the light on the card is on.

I'm just not convinced that the ipronto is even instructing the network card to connect. It would be helpful if there was any documentation on the causes of specific error messages.

I'd more suspect a dead network card. Does it have any lights illuminate on it?

If your dealer is local, ask him to loan you another network card to try. If the problem persists, it's something else. Since it is a new unit purchased from an authorized dealer, you should be able to talk to Philips tech support and have them walk you through the setup procedure over the phone.

Did you ever get your remote to connect. I am having the problem of the remote seeing the network and the router seeing the remote, but they don't assign an IP address.
