Can anyone tell me if the iPronto TSi6400 can be setup to work with 802.11g wireless?

No one had found a way I believe. Even if you update the wireless doogle in it, will the software still accept it and work? The 9800 has G, but you cannot customize the screens like the IPronto. One or the other it seems.

Thanks for the reply Grimmace. I have a U.S.Robotics "g" router. I guess I need to figure out a way to get 802.11b into the stream.

The wifi card is easy enough to physically replace, the problem is the unit only has a couple embedded card drivers with no way to add to them. I seem to recall some success replacing with other 802.11b cards, but nothing with g.

All "G" routers should work with "B" cards, however typically you have to set it to a "mixed" mode which can impact maximum "G" speed. I remember when I bought my last router I did so as tests showed it had the best "G" performance when there were also "B" cards on the network.

Wrangler,
Your info was helpful.

I set my U.S. Robotics "G" USR8054 configuration to run 802.1xx and got a signal on the iPronto "B".

Now if I could just get the iPronto to take the DHCP I think it would work.

The 128 bit encryption seems to be entered ok.

When in doubt, remove all security. Remove WEP, remove MAC filtering, use a plain SSID, just get it going. As soon as it's working add security features one at a time so you know what's causing the issue. Entering the WEP key can be a pain, and you may want to try the long hex code instead of the passphrase, since some access points do different things if your passphrase is less than the maximum number of characters.

I don't know what level of firmware your iPronto has on it, however early firmware had serious issues with DHCP and it's best to upgrade the firmware as soon as you've got a connection.

To do this, you may find it easier to enter network settings on the iPronto manually, so that you eliminate DHCP altogether (just copy most of the settings from another of your DHCP assigned devices, and use an unused IP - for instance if your IP pool starts at 192.168.1.100 then you can give the iPronto 192.168.1.50 safely).

Since a B on G router will slow down the G speed for all connected units, I figured I would just buy a used B WAP on eBay for this expressed purpose - thus it would not slow down the rest of the wifi network devices. Remember as well that the speed decreases with distance from the WAP.

I ended up buying a B WAP that now sits in the same room as the iPronto for $1.
