I am wondering if any long time users of the iPronto can shed some light on its limits.

1) As I stated before, when I told the iPronto software not to mess with my files, the .icf came out around 8.5 meg and upon uploading, I received a message that it was to large to load. Thus I had not choice but to let iPronto fool with my sizes to get them down to lower rez.

2) After letting iPronto Editor down rez some graphics (ok...probably most graphics) it was happy in the mid 3.5Meg Range. It has operated fine in this area for the last 10 days.

I did a very complex screen for sports to see what it would look like and threw virtually everything I could at it. I uploaded it and got a different error message - that the icf file was too complex with too many items for the iPronto - even though I was far less than 4Meg.

So again, I went in and deleted everything i could find from the early themes that people had uploaded. It's happy again, but I feel I must really be at the outer limit of what I can do - and I am not close to finishing up the menus I wanted.

Does anyone know what the limits actually are and is there a way to check them to so you know how close to disaster you really are?

OK....its over the top...wanted all sports channels from all providers in 1 place laid out geographically....turned into a mess with at least 10 commands under each button.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

The worst part is even though its a mess, 1) it works and 2) its much easier than trying to remember all the channel numbers and which channel is on which service, lol.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Go to the ProntoProNG forum and search for posts on memory issues. There are a few folks on that forum who understand how Prontos treat memory. Apparently, the nominal size of a pcf (or icf) file has little to do with how much memory the Pronto device uses because it translates graphics and other information using its own compression algorithms. In ProntoPro it is possible to determine the true memory requirement using the simulator, but, since iPronto has no simulator, I don't know how you would get to it. My experience is that you can save quite a bit of memory by using png files instead of bmps.

yes, i have been moving all my graphics from bmp to jpg. They loose a little bit of quality, but the desktops map of the North America above was close to 900k in a .bmp format - only to be covered up with icons. The jpg brought it down to 38k.

My point is that both the 900k and 38k files will be translated to something different and there is no way you can find out the results of the translation.
