I just received my iPronto yesterday, and have been unable to get it to connect to a wireless network. I have tried two different wireless networks - an Orinoco AP-2000 (802.11b) and an AirPort Extreme (802.11g). I was not able to connect via either of these. In each case I was able to connect wirelessly with my laptops - a Powerbook and a Dell.

Though sitting right next to the access point, I see no signal strength on the 'General' tab. On the 'Wireless' tab, I have I set the 'Service Set Identifier' to my access point name (Medialink)without encryption to keep things simple. On the 'Network' tab, I set the host name of my unit (iPronto)and tried to turn on DHCP. It displays an 'Applying new settings. Please wait...' message for a bit, then switches back to Fixed IP. I need no proxy for the internet.

Since I can connect out to the internet with my laptops via these access points, I know that they are correctly configured. I just don't know what is happening. I am concerned that my iPronto or 802.11b card inside it are defective. I have reset the unit several times using the little recessed button in the rear.

This isn't the part of the setup I expected to have issues with. I really need help here. Is there some hidden test I can do here, or some subtle order of inputs that I should do?

If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. (I ordered this unit from SurfRemoreControl.com, so if you're reading this Mike, drop me a line at [email protected])

Thanks In Advance,

John Mahoney

I found I could not use DHCP properly on at least early firmware versions (it would sometimes gather DHCP information OK, but it would generally corrupt later). Fixed IP has always worked fine. I also have 128-bit WEP working.

Try changing it to fixed settings. Be sure to enter the IP, subnet, gateway (your router) and DNS server (likely your ISP), then reboot the unit. If you can get it working at least once, upgrade the firmware right away since there have been a lot of network bug fixes.

Be sure to also check the AP (either lights on the unit or its admin page) to see if it's receiving or transmitting anything to the iPronto (don't go by the iPronto's "connected" graphic).

Daniel,

I have my ipronto working just fine at home using a linksys 802.11b wireless access point/router. here is my question: if i disconnect my cable modem from the router the ipronto can no longer communicate with my laptop via another linksys wireless pc card. i am not a computer guru and understand the ipronto can't sign on the web for its epg and internet capabilities but my goal is to be able to peform ipronto tweaks in the field by simply bringing my access point/router with me and not have to depend on a customer's home system. Some customers believe it or not; have bought the ipronto from me to simply use it as a remote and making changes in the field is a bit tricky. any ideas? Thanks. Brad

Hey Brad,

Ive been having the same problem, i just got it to work though...heres how:
First, download Version 2.0 of the software for the pronto, Second, in the configuration, make sure that the SSID is the same on the router and on your Wireless network card for your PC, Third, refresh the screen to make sure that you have a wireless signal.

This should do the job, if not, you can try this....Set up the entire system with the internet hooked up, perform one upload or download, then unplug the internet, and perform an upload again and when it says that it cannot find the pronto, use the last configuration that worked, and that should do it....I hope that works. Good Luck.

I have had the same problem on several occasions and it seems to work if after I set the service set identifier to the right name the I reboot the WAP and then I reboot the remote and everything seems to work. Sometimes you can just reboot the iPronto and it will work but every time I enter a service set identifier I need to reboot inorder to make these iProntos connect

I've noticed that if the iPronto reboots while the AP is unavailable, it will need to reboot again before it'll connect to an available AP.
