I have installed iprontoedit 2.6 from this site on both my brothers desktop and my laptop, everything works as it should on the desktop but i can't get any configurations to load on my laptop.
The loading configuration window comes up but theres no blue progress bars so the configuration comes up as empty.
I've tried reinstalling, no joy.
I've tried connectiong the laptop to the router via ethernet cable, this way it at least finds the ipronto but still can't load the configuration.
Any help would be appreciated.

Pronto is up and running?

Tried a "ping" command from your PCs/notebooks to iPronto? In other words: WIFI (WLAN) connection is working?

Best regards,

Kalle

yes, ipronto is up and running ok, surfing the internet etc. been using my bothers desktop when using the ipronto edit, no problems there.
The trouble is i would like to use my laptop, the wifi on the laptop is fine as well, i use the laptop all the time for surfing, just can't get ipronto edit to load any configurations, it can't even find the ipronto.
Regards and thanks for the reply.

I know on my laptop, it could not find the ipronto.

I had to specify the IP address.

The next time, same thing....it cannot find it in the search, but takes it fine in when I put in the IP.

Is this normal or does Windows XP Firewall close a port that is needed?

I find it strange it does not default to the last IP of a pronto it found...and at least try that one.

I only use static IPs, no DHCP ... however:

Can you ping iPronto?

If yes, turn off the MS security center and the firewall service (run services.msc). Then the iPronto Edit should find iPronto.

Best regards,

Kalle

Sorry, bit of a novice, don't know how to ping the ipronto, the main problem i have is i can't load any configurations into the iprontoedit, i have connected this laptop directly to the router with ethernet, and it found the ipronto, i uploaded the configuration from the ipronto and it came up totally blank.
It's only when i use this laptop via wi-fi that it can't find the ipronto.
Regards
Alistair.

it can't find the ipronto.

Seems obvious that your laptop's or router's wifi settings are incorrect. Call the tech support line for the company that made your wifi router and ask them to walk you through all the settings. I'm sure that your problem will be easily resolved.

Thanks for the reply, not sure about the settings, i surf the internet on the laptop using wifi with no problems, so i assumed everything was fine, i will do what you say and see if they can help me.
Any ideas about iprontoedit not loading configurations, i'm thinking that if i can get the laptop to see the ipronto i still won't be able to use ipronto edit to load the configurations. :-(
Regards
Alistair.

Any ideas about iprontoedit not loading configurations,

Don't understand. iProntoEdit uploads and downloads icf files to/from the iPronto device. If you are not able to do that, and you think the communications links are OK, then I'd try re-installing a fresh copy of the editor. However, the chances are 99% the problem is with your wifi laptop communications link since you say there is no problem with the desktop.

From the home page, press the button on the lower right to flip the screen over to settings and see what the IP is on the network.

It will also show you signal strength on the network.

At that point, try to download to the ipronto by manually filling in the ipronto IP address when it cannot find it on it's own.

Just an FYI, I assigned my WAP the .251 address. My laptop on .50 could not find the iPronto on its own, though I could manually type in the address and have it upload.

I changed the WAP IP address to .7 and now the laptop finds the iPronto all the time.

Don't ask me how or why, but apparently even little changes like this play games with the auto detection of the iPronto.

Hi,

first, determine the IP address of your iPronto. (like SomeRandomNick wrote).
e.g. 192.168.40.15 this should be the IP address of your iPronto.

On your laptop/PC open a cmd prompt ("DOS box", run cmd.exe).
There write
ping 192.168.40.15
and you should get a reply.

If this works, the network connection is fine.

Next, take a look at WIFI encryption. What's the encryption of the access point (WEP ... none :-) - check with iPronto. Must be the same.

Try to open a website on iPronto, e.g. www.ebay.com

Working?

Fine. Network is working.

Why do you think iPronto finds your iPronto? Because you see the last used IP address in a dialog window? Nope. You even see it if iPronto is turned off.

Can you GET the configuration FROM the iPronto?

Best regards,

Kalle

Hi.
Thanks for your help.
I have pinged the ipronto (4 packets sent and 4 packets received)
Both access point and ipronto are 64 bit wep, i have tried setting both with no encrytion as well.
I can surf the internet on the ipronto with no problems.
I tried again to load my configuration from the ipronto, i had to target the ipronto as it still can't find it.
When i target it it seems to be uploading it OK, but when it's finished uploading, iprontoedit tries to load it but the blue bars don't scroll across the window, the configuration comes up blank, although strangely the name of my icf is there.
Any help would be appreciated, the problem seems to be with the iprontoedit, done another reinstall today as well.
Regards
Alistair.

I had this the first time I used 2.6. All I did to solve it was keep trying to upload. After about 3 or 4 failed attempts, it just decided to right itself and started working. Ever since then it's worked first time every time. Try repeating the upload process over and over. You never know. It worked for me!

Hi Alistair,

try to create a brand new icf file (don't load your current one) and try to load this to iPronto? (maybe just a picture on a panel ... to try)

Does it work?

Then you might have a problem with your icf file ?!?

Strange. This is indeed a pretty weird problem :-)

Best regards,

Kalle
