I'm interested in the iPronto's current combo of large customizable screen and reasonable price. I do not need or want the EPG and don't have home network of any type (come one, I'm an old guy who goes back to vacuum tube computers--learned Fortran to progran the IBM 650); I just want to control a simple home theater system with an HDTV, DirecTv HD Tivo, Surround sound AV receiver, and CD jukebox.

Can you disable the WiFi and EPG functions and sue it as an IR remote?

Thanks for the bad news, and pls excuse the typos in my first post!

I never thought that communication would be the problem, since Phillips advertises "...USB port for connectivity..." If you can't download setup files from the editor ti the remote, what the *&# does the USB port do?

USB port does nothing. But you can download your configurations using an sd/mmc card, without using WiFi.

Thanks, Gosh, that is hopeful. Will it then run OK without "seeing" a WiFi connection? Will the EPG trying to load/update cause any probs?

I'd really like to be able to use this remote. The big screen should allow me to control my (fairly simple system--Hitachi HD CRT RP, Pioneer 9100 AV control receiver, DirecTV Hughes HD Tivo, Pioneer 533 DVD recdr, and Sony 300 disc CD jukebox) without having to put on my reading glasses to find a button (far-sighted).

The SD/MMC card works fine. I have done it when my network was down before. I do not believe you can stop the EPG. All it will mean is every morning it will try and connect and fail. I have set my time limit (with the unit plugged in) for the remote to on to 10 minutes. The unit shuts off eventually. If not, just hit the cancel button on the screen when it says it is trying to connect. The only real problem I see with no internet connect is you cannot get firmware updates (like they will ever make another). So, if it does not come with the latest that's it. You could get a B only Access Point for about $10 if you want. Just setup your remote on your computer, transfer it to a SD/MMC card, and then load it into the IPronto, that's it.

Thanks, Grimmace. That's good news!

One last question: what is the latest firmware version, and is it available on the Phillips site? If I committ to an iPronto, I guess I could take the unit to a friend's home who has a WiFi operating and download firmwear via that.

You cannot update the IPronto except through the Inernet, so you cannot get it through the website. Just the editing software. I believe it is 1.9.3.

Sorry, I don't understand. What is the difference between "the internet" and a "web site?"

Maybe I wasn't clear abt getting updated firmware, if needed. I have a friend with a wirless LAN in his home. If I needed the latest version of the firmware (which I assume is the last that will ever be available), I would go to his home, connect via his WiFi and download the firmware from the appropriate (Phillips?) website Actually, I could develop my configuration on his PC and load to the iPronto via his WiFi also. He is close enuff that the logistics of testing/revising wouldn't be too bad.

Do I have this right or not?

Thanks

I think so, sorry for the confusion. The only way to update the IPronto is through the IPronto via a WAP B. The software to make IPronto screens is available through the Phillips website, or on this website I beleive.

Thanks to all who have helped figure out how this all works.

Now I just have to make a decision -- the iPronto, TSU7000/7500, or an MX-3000.
