Hi

I've had two pronto's a B&W and a Colour one, the Colour One has just stopped charging for some reason, no little green leds when in cradle, the power goining into it.

The upshot is I am thining of moving to the iPronto, after reading through this forum there seems to be a lot of short comings in this version.

I guess most of you who have an ipronto "upgraded" from an earlier model.

Do you think the upgrade was worth it or do you think it would be worth waiting for a newer model, there must be one on the horizon! :-)

I think - and sincerely hope - they (the iPronto development team) will focus on making sure all promised functions appear in this generation of iProntos before venturing onto developing a new model... If not, I have a strong feeling there will be a lawsuit on its way.

I see no likelihood of a replacement for iPronto for quite some time to be honest, so if your only reason for holding on is for a next version then I'd say don't bother. It took me a little while to get used to the iPronrto, and at first I wasn't convinced. One of my major gripes has been resolved though, increasing it's flexibility for me. Now, I wouldn't choose to be without it. It's fantastic. The big screen and excellent graphics combined with the large onboard memory make it a dream to customise. No more squeezing little tiny buttons onto the screen in desperate effort to fit all the functions you want on there! I would truly recommend it to anyone. My only caution would be to check what it can do now and if that fits in with your system, then great. Don't buy it in the hopes that they may add some extra functions later, as they may not. Ignore any advertising that talk about things being activated in later upgrades. I'm not saying they won't be activated, but they may not. And even if they are it could be a long way off.

But this is a very sexy remote! It is very flexible, as long as your system isn't too advanced (RS232, RF devices etc), and is very easy to use. I had a huge number of crashes in the early days, but it almost never happens now with the latest firmware upgrades. Oh, and everyone who comes round comments on it!

Hope this helps. Good idea to ask. Don't rush into it! :)

Put a PC in the cotrol loop (a cheap $300 one) and all the problems of IR sequences, macros, X10, RS232 just go away. Will require programming skill, but nor too much. I am working on a user friendly program specifically aligned to this problem. Contact me for more info [email protected]

Should also be possible to do similar with a PC, "girder" and a girder supported IR receiver ... haven't got round to setting time aside for learning Girder but it seems to be a hugely powerfull (read as "at first completely unfathomable") tool. I have bought it as I intend to use it to provide serial port control of my Pioneer AX10iS amp and Sharp LC32GA4E LCD TV.

To find Girder take a look at www.girder.nl

Cheers

Phil
