I am a fairly new user of the ipronto. We had set up and working fine a while back. I updated the firmware today to the current version. This seemed to work fine, but the four-up remote screen (brought up 4 device pages at one time) that used to be under side button 3 is gone, replaced by another browser.

I suspect I am missing a setup item to bring this back. Can someone help?

Thanks, Dan

In the notes of the new firmware states:

Layout 3 showing the quarter view has been replaced by a browser preset to improve stability. As a consequence all 4 M-view related bugs are solved.

Hope this help.

Thanks much. I should have read the release notes. I always get a kick out of a software developer that indicates bugs are solved by removing the feature!

That is funny. I had not used my unit in a long time (due to various bugs) and every so often I check for software updates and update my unit and did notice the 4 screen display disappeared but thougth maybe I was doing something wrong.

That was one of the cooler things that had going (but stability sucked) but if it is more stable then maybe it will someday be a viable product (even though it has been very cool for over a year).

OH well...I will play with it for a while and see if it finally is truely stable.

To be honest if you want a Q-View display then you can do it just by defining one screen with copies of the buttons you want from the four screens you wanted ... I never found the Q-View facility at all usefull and was quite happy to see the back of it!

I can see why some did not like the Qview and also how you can (partly) replace it with a self created one. I say partly because one of the nice things with Qview was you could mix and match the quarter screens as required, in effect giving ultimate flexibility. Had they done away with the stupid tabs and scroll bars I think it would have been better accepted.

Anyway, my final point on this is that to replace that button with yet another browser is just plain lazy. After all, the only reason we need multiple browser buttons is because Philips have been too damn lazy to produce a favourites (or links) facility.

I've really enjoyed my iPronto for 6 months but I just wish to God Philips would pull their finger (or maybe their heads) out of their backsides and give us what we deserve with this product. I should not be surprised though. Remember CDi, V2000 and other products which they just abandoned. I reckon the iPronto will go the same way within the next 6 months - dropped by Philips. Crying shame!!

I don't quite agree with you on there being no requirement for multiple browsers ... I have one browser set to the Home Automation web frontend generated by my HA controller, one to the web frontend for SlimServer, one to my firewall and one to my wireless AP - the other goes to www.dominos.co.uk. ;-)

Being serious though - with multiple browsers having defined addresses then that web page becomes part of your remote rather than the remote being a device running a webbrowser. (Do you get my meaning?) I do wish though that they would get round to allowing the removal of those damn blue tabs from the left hand side of the display - I think we both fought for that on the beta testing run!

I still do enjoy my iPronto - I'd love another but I can't afford it - and I certainly don't see Philips dropping it as a product in the near future. Possibly I get a little more visibility of what they're doing at the moment but I do know that they are working very hard on a couple of network related issues involving several of my customers.

Unfortunately I think between the participants in that last Beta testing phase and the Philips iPronto Team we missed a great opportunity to really blitz the unit ... the Ipronto Team were concentrating on a few defined areas on the whole and a number of the beta testers seemed more interested in where was their NetXtender that they were promised and whether anyone else had any funky graphics that they could use rather than doing serious testing.

Yes, there are some people having problems and they do need to be resolved but it isn't easy - I do know that they are working hard to get them resolved though. I am also aware though that we have a large number of iProntos out there that are working absolutely faultlessly - mine included in that since the 1.6 firmware release cured my only problem which was the unit not coming out of sleep!

Considering Philips wanted the beta testers to test the Netxtender as part of the programme are you surprised people were wondering and asking where they were. It also doesn't surprise me that someone who got theirs eraly (or had access to one) would say that :)

I know for me, by the time I started asking where mine was I had realised that Philips were not truly interested in exploring the capabilities of the device and/or our imagination to find out what we wanted. By this time I just wanted some payback and just glad mine turned up before they closed the programme (abrubtly).

I'm afraid nothing Philips does (that I can see) changes my view that they have some great products but hugely let down by p**s poor support and leadership. I'm afraid my view is that they are one of, if not the, worst consumer electronics companies out their (and I have lots of HC kit).

A company is not usually judged by those customers with perfect working products, rather by those who have problem products, and it doesn't seem Philips are doing too well with the latter type.

Last time I checked "mine" was still sitting with Menlo (the shippers) with an outstanding £176 of import duties and charges owing on it. :)

OK - I was lucky and able to pull a NetXtender from "stock" to use for the testing. (We had had one returned as "unwanted" and since it had been opened and used then we cannot resell it as new.)

I know for me, by the time I started asking where
mine was I had realised that Philips were not

of the device and/or our imagination to find out

No - that's true - Philips weren't wanting (on that run) to extend the functionality of the iPronto. What they were wanting to do was try to resolve some of the stability issues that people were complaining (rightly) about and from what I've seen here at work in the way of reported problem then that has been sucessfull to a quite significant degree. The number of reported "my iPronto keeps locking up" complaints has decreased dramatically (although there are still some of course) and so I feel that the exercise was in that respect successfull.

There is still ongoing work from Philips to resolve other issues which people are reporting and I do fully expect that those too will be resolved.

By this time I just wanted some
payback and just glad mine turned up before they
closed the programme (abrubtly).

OK - Fair enough ... I just wanted to make the product more stable in the first instance and hopefully better in the second instance. Mind you, as we are both aware, I now have no problems at all with my iPronto since the last set of firmware updates (other than the LCD clock on the unit is an hour out).

I'm afraid nothing Philips does (that I can see)

Believe me there are some which are much worse ... I have to deal with a couple of them!

Unfortunately your dealer should have been helping you a lot more with your problem rather than just leaving you hanging - isn't that what you pay dealers for?

Yeah - I have told Menlo this on several occasions but they are still wanting to charge me.

As I don't need it now I just said to send it back. :-D
