Importing IPronto from US to Germany?

Hi!

I´m in the market for an IPronto. My problem is, that the remote is way more expensive over here in Germany than it is in the US. The remote is around 2,000 $ in Germany compared to app. 1,299 $ in the US.

The only thing that keeps me apart from ordering one in the US is, that I don´t know whether there are country specific differences. One difference will probably be the powerchord and the different voltage for charging. But this can be handled with a converter.

The other thing I was wondering about is the EPG. Is that specific for the country where the remote is bought?

It would be great if someone could help me out with those questions. If you know any othe problem, that might occur, it would be great, if you would let me know!

I don't think you'll have any problems. The EPG subscription site lists 60 German Speaking channels that you can setup on the EPG. The Pronto itself is completely customisable using the ProntoEdit software, as long as you're happy with English menus on the ProntoEdit software itself.

I don't think you'll need a converter either as the external PSU supplied with the iPronto handles 100-240V, 50-60Hz. All you will need is a power cable to plug into the PSU, which is the same kind of lead that plugs into a common PC or Monitor (A kettle-lead as we call it in England).

I ordered mine from Bluedo in the US and cannot recommend them highly enough for efficiency and service. Warranty may be a problem, but posts on here suggest that Philips have said they will honour a US warranty in Europe.

all above true, but be aware that if you have a problem your remote may be away for a *long* time, and do some multiple emails to get some results.

Its been about a month for me now and no sign of mine comming back.

Other than that the power supply and remote work fine in Europe. Mine was Bluedo also but remember that in the US you send it back to Philips and NOT the dealer.

Remember also that when you buy something like this from the US then on arrival in Europe you should also pay import duty on the cost of the item and then VAT on the cost of the item plus the import duty!

You can pretty quickly bite very heavily into that $800 price differential in that way...

Not saying you shoudn't do it - we're only too aware of the price differential, believe me - but if you do do it then be aware of the possible pitfalls first. We've had a few people contact us over TSU3000's that have been bought from the US and have gone faulty and we can't help ... Philips do have a worldwide warranty policy but it will be up to you to sort it out with them rather that via a dealer.
