DHL today delivered a replacement remote, its a RU1000, used or repaired (fine by me !). Came with 6.22 already loaded, all seems to be well.
Many thanks to those that helped me out.

Right...
The information I have so far is that Philips plan to send out replacement WiFi cards to everyone that has a hanging problem. They are trying to organise exactly how they are going to handle this but it is looking like it will involve the end user calling a Philips phone numer and Philips will send the card out direct to the customer.
At the moment I have no information on what the call center numbers are likely to be.

Figured time for a breif update... all good news really.
I have been using the replacement remote for several weeks now, no issues with network or reset problems. Thanks to Phil who spotted an odd thing with my router now fixed.
Last weekend broadband fitted and the EPG updates as it should and the browser does what its supposed to. Proxy server gone for good and 24hr internet access :-)
Maybe I need another one ?? Time for a look on ebay perhaps...
