Took the plunge and ordered from Bluedo. Ordered Sunday, arrived today via UPS. Touch wood, seems to have avoided the dreaded VAT.

Found the wireless network first time, and is now merrily updating. I'm already thrilled to bits with it, but will be sad to pack away the old RU890 Pronto, which has done sterling work down the years.

Using Telewest 1.5mb broadband, via Netgear wireless router.

I've got over the oohing and aahing, and I've already seen some of the frustrations:-

1. Pages are very slow to load in the browser
2. No multimedia browser plugins
3. Lots of websites don't work properly, drop-downs, links, etc.

However, the device and display are absolutely gorgeous. I can see my Bank Holiday weekend taken up designing my CCF now, can't wait to really come up with something special.

Here's a question for any advanced users:-

Is there a way of getting into a shell prompt, so I can, for example, wake my PC up via wake-on-LAN by pinging it?

P.S. In case it's useful, I'm sure I read here a couple of times that all you need to source in the UK was a figure-8 power lead, similar to those on laptops and VCR/DVD's, etc.

It's actually a proper PC power supply lead, (or kettle lead)that just plugs into the auto-sensing power-supply of the iPronto. I had one lying around, but they are freeely available in PCWorld and Maplins.

Just make sure you have the latest firmware if you are browsing...

Philips have lots of development to go as yet I think... particularly the web support. I have found a few funnies in the EPG too, some channels disapear and return without any rhyme or reason.

Mine also has the "kettle" socket, as far as I can see its identical to the UK model other than the model number.

Which Netgear router are you using ? I have the MR814V2.(see "network problems" thread for my woes :-( )

Yes, I have latest firmware, did update straight away. EPG is nice to have, I just wish they'd do a deal with digiguide or something to get all channels and more detailed listings.

Router is MR314, a couple of years old now, but has been reliable, and worked with a few different brands of NIC without problems so far.

OK, I've just uploaded my first CCF, took me almost 2 whole bloody days (goodbye Bank Holiday), even starting with the free template from www.guifx.com. Their design is brilliant, by the way.

The fact you can't encode the hard buttons to each device is a major, major hindrance, so let's hope the Pronto team give an update to allow this as a priority.

Bad news - If your export invoice ( the paperwork in the clear envelope on the outside ) says the full value then you will get a VAT invoice with customs charges from UPS in the post!

Great unit though!

I arranged special instructions with the vendor to account for this, so fingers crossed.
