HI guys,

I have been asked by the head programmer of Ipronto to make a wish list of what you want to see added/changed to the IPRONTO software. He told me their already is a road map set aside for upgrades to the software. He asked me to pass a list back to him so please give me your ideas?

Thanks,
Ed Casares

Importing of the Graphics is just a BIG pain. Not to mention very slow. The view IR and being able to paste X-10 code. Also being able to have in the multi-screen the option to have remote screens and web browser screens open at the same time.

Thats all i can think of for right now..

The Ipronto edit update will be ready next month, pasting hex codes will be included.

I have not played with iPE much, and have never held a remote.

I think it would be cool if one quadrant could influence the rest. I have thought, it might be cool to use 1/4 of the screen as a place to select what the other 3/4 show.

also, the way I understand it, to download the icf to the iPronto you have to tap the iProntos screen. It would be cool if the remote where password protected (from the net)

i.e.

1) you press download in iPE and then a window pops up, you enter the password, and it downloads to the remote.

2) if there is an emulator (fingers crossed), then it can ask for a password if you enter it you control the iPronto from the emulator else you are just working on your PC.

I think an import from ccf or pcf would be a welcome addition. Also, is there no way to test ir codes from ipe?

Here is my list:

1. Currently my iProntoEdit has problems finding the iPronto device even though I can ping it from the same PC, so I would like the iProntoEdit to have a configuration that I can set the IP of the iPronto to allow fast and easy connections for file upload and download. (EDIT) After more work I was able to get my iProntoEdit to work 99% of the time but I still think a more robust set of network option would be nice. (EDIT)

2. Remapping of Hard buttons for different devices, i.e. I currently use my channel up and down on my Pronto TSU2000 to Play and Pause my DVD when I’m on the DVD device panel and channel up and down when I’m on my Satellite device panel.

3. Computer Software that will allow the iPronto simple interaction with a PC on the network. Interface to something simple like keyboard commands would work (I use Girder for keyboard mapping to do all kinds of things).

4. Also related to above request a Wake-on-LAN command, which should be easy enough to include as a user only needs a compatible NIC (most today allow this) and the MAC address, the command is simply the MAC (repeated >15 times) with a synchronization stream at the end. This relates to the above request because if they added the simple computer interface software that loaded as a service you could login, shut down, or boot your media PC with macros.

5. Allow an SD Card to be used as extra storage of backgrounds, buttons, and sound files, for example in a Windows PocketPC you can choose to save files to main memory or storage card. If the files are linked then it would be just another partition in the system. Obviously the code would have to be robust enough to not crash if the card was removed, i.e. any files that can not be located would be replace with a compatible token file.

6. Allow me to change and add sound files for buttons or actions by uploading either MP3s or WAV files, see number 5 above for space constraints.

7. Separate backlight and system off timers like on a Pronto TSUx000, i.e. turn off backlight after 30 seconds and turn off system after 20 minutes. This would do two things for me; first save battery life, and second allow me to use the hard buttons without waiting for the system to come online. My family and I mute the sound on every commercial break during normal TV watching and with the iPronto we have to push the hard button mute once, wait a second, then push it again to get the mute to work. I have tried setting the off timer to a greater time frame, like 15 minutes, but this really eats up the batteries as the unit never shuts off during two hours of primetime TV watching because we use the mute every 10 or so minutes.

8. It would be nice to have a SDK for building Applications for the iPront.

9. Some way to tell how much memory would used on the iPronto when your creating icf files through iProntoEdit.

10. Support for GIF or JPEGs to reduce image size.

11. Saw this on another post but transparent support would be nice, if GIFs were supported this would be easy.

12. Background color control for pages, not just Black, Dark Gray, Gray and White.

13. Background image with title, center, scale options.

14. The ability to hide Devices and Pages.

* I know this is not a software item but I have seen this mentioned before and would like to re-voice it here. Build a docking station. The battery cover could be replaced with one that has contacts to allow docking. I really think this should have been included with the unit at a price of around $1700.

I just received this unit tonight and it doesn't seem to support sending commands via RF (only IR)? I use 3 ProntoPro's and purchased one iPronto to see if I wanted to replace these but it doesn't communicate through RF. Is this in the works or maybe I missed something concerning this,

Kevin,

Ipronto works on RF but only thru a wifi protocol. The wifi to Ir adapter is expected within the next 90-days to allow you to us rf instead of IR. The rfx6000 will not work. Im waiting for this adapter for my customer.

Hope this helps,

Ed,

That would be nice to have and I hope they keep the price under the $150 mark. For me though item 3 on my list above would work as I currently use a sLink-e interface on my computer to allow IR communication from my computer via simple keyboard short cuts. I also have an AirPanel v110 from ViewSonic which I use as a whole house remote, I can control anything in my house with it, X10, sound, video, HVAC... This is a great option but with the sLink-e and docking station you end up around the same cost as a iPronto and don’t get hard buttons or the smaller form factor.

Not sure if EPG application should go on this wish list but if not maybe Ed could still pass it on to the right people.

EPG Only Wish List:
1. Big one for me would be a search feature which allowed searching through all categories as well as selected categories.

2. Add page up & down buttons. Currently the up & down arrows only allow scrolling one line at a time.

3. Sort by options. For example sort: alphabetically, channel number, rating…

4. Non-truncated titles in description box. When I click on a movie title the small description title box only shows 5 more letters then the title list does. This means longer program names like: “Hallmark Theater Presents: C…” are a bit harder to figure out.

5. Programmable categories, i.e. allow me to replace the Sports category list with a list of channels like PPV or Favorites, similar to my DirecTV receiver.

6. Download program guild listing of all program titles, for example PPV channels only show “Pay-Per-View” and a channel number. I want to know what is on those channels.

7. This one is just a nice to have: if EPG App. was skinable and with the graphics item that could be moved around (buttons & menus).

8. Allow the EPG channel list to be added/removed through the iProntoEdit application, this would also allow you to edit your EPG categories list in item 5 above.

Well that’s a enough for now.

Thanks,
Opus

1. Allow multi-select , so you can copy and paste a group of buttons. (Also paste should put controls in original cordinates, not in top left corner). You should also be able to set properties of multiple buttons at once. (like font size)

2.gifs, or png image files would be nice.. But also defining a color for transparency in bitmaps would help.

3.Fixing the sync window, so that when it finds the Ipronto you don’t have to click on the IP address. The first one in the list should be the default.

4.As mentioned before, being able to set the background color of more colors. This would reduce having to have a large bitmap just to put color in the background.

5.Fixing the problem that when you copy and paste buttons, the buttons can only be used for the same function. Generic ID’s should be generated for every button.

6.Would be nice if buttons didn’t have to be rectangle.

7.On the Ipronto, there should be a way to get available memory space, and to be able to delete files or data. I set my program guide to download all the information for all the channels for DTV. How do I know if my memory is full?

I would like to see the following:

1. Improved browser capability. It should be able to display Flash, Java etc.

2. A better way to save Favorites than assigning a url to each layout on the touchstrip.

3. Perhaps a way to read e-mail

4. It needs more than the three basic applications (EPG,Remote& Browser)to be worth $1699. You can buy an XP Web Tablet for $2000. They should incorporate an 802.11g card as soon as possible and develop a way to access all of the digital music and photo's that people have stored on their PC's.

5. Support for other graphics formats is needed. It would be nice if they could support .EPS format as they can be saved without a background and you could paste them onto any color background.

To access your MP3's you could by a audiotron from turtle beach. It has a web interface that you can access with the Iprontno.
