Will the I Pronto be able to control my PC ie i have the pc connected to my hifi and would like to be able to control playback of mp3'S Will it simulate my pc screen? This will hugely influence my future buying decision.

Also will the American version work in the UK (Not bothered about Program Guide)

can't say for sure, but since they are planning an 802.11b device with sensors and stuff, that means that you can program a button to send a code using the 802.11b, that mans that you could possibly link those codes to your PC

802.11b is an international standard, so except for power, can't see anything else be a problem

Will a media player be included for track selection (ie it could search my computer for MP3/WMA files and provide me with a media player type list to select and play through my computer)

or am i dreaming of something in the future.

The iPronto only has three applications right now: remote, web browser and EPG. Anything you do would have to be done through a web page.

It sounds a bit limited for $1699, i already have a pronto (1st gen) thats almost 4 now and want to replace it with an ultimate, i thought the ipronto would be it but it seems like a remote with internet. Nice but would be better if they did more with it. Don't mind the price if it does the job.

I really can't get exited about the EPG, it probably won't be compatible with tivo anyway. At $1699 they are aiming at the specialist user market that have probably got £25K+ systems to control including the computer, jukebox, 400disc changer and x10 systems.

I have said it before and i'll say it again the Symfony with infra red and home customisation, come on philips. Lets make things better!

maybe this is it. In the features menu on the pronto.philips.com website under the media control banner philips says that the ipronto can select any music or media on the network, could this be it?

My main problem is that it appears that it is very low resolution. I don't think it will really be usable (practical) to browse the web at that resolution. The tablet PCs probably make more since. I really can't see this selling any volume at all.

640x480 ain't all that bad (although, for example, this site is designed for at least 800x600).

Daniel are you arare of any higher specced model higher resolution, more features maybe.
Any ideas of timescale would be nice.

Also will the Ipronto be released under different labels such as crestron/marantz

So far I've only heard of the Pronto version and only the one model (although it was improved since CEDIA). I'd expect something from Crestron though.

the problem with crestron is they look at the market and add 50% to the price. I suppose, if it does the job though.

Any idea of timescale
will you be reviewing the crestron.

I'd "expect" something from Crestron -- nothing exists yet.

iPronto is designed to be a device to connect to the internet through your LAN, it WILL not talk back and fourth to your pc, i.e. swapping files, or playing music from your pc through the iPronto. It also has modified Pronto software, and progam guides that are somewhat interactive. Not sure about the UK question....
