Curious if anyone has an idea for curing this....I cannot download from iProntoedit to my iPronto, nor can I upload. The device cannot be found. Every other feature of the iP works fine...WiFI is fine, easy access to multiple internet sites, EPG downloads daily and works great, but the edit program can't find my iPronto. Running XP.

Is its assigned IP address similar to your computer's (same subnet)? I just tried and it found and uploaded from my iPronto OK.

Yes....IP address is one digit higher, and it has exact same subnet and default gateway. Thanks

I'm currently using the latest version of iProntoEdit (1,0,13,0 Jan 13 2003/10:53:37) and have tested it on four computers (3 - WinXP pro and 1 - Win2000) on the same subnet as the iPronto with no luck. So I decided to check the ports and IPs that iProntoEdit was using. iProntoEdit is using Port 20000 with limited broadcast address 255.255.255.255 but port 20000 is not a port that the iPronto response to, here is a port scan of my iPronto:

Scanning from Port: 0 to: 65000
[12:53:09 AM] Connection To: [192.168.1.111] On Port No: [1449]
Port Name: [Unknown]
[12:53:37 AM] Connection To: [192.168.1.111] On Port No: [2323]
Port Name: [Unknown]
[1:03:35 AM] Connection To: [192.168.1.111] On Port No: [21000]
Port Name: [Unknown]
[1:04:06 AM] Connection To: [192.168.1.111] On Port No: [22000]
Port Name: [Unknown]
[1:21:23 AM] Connection To: [192.168.1.111] On Port No: [54321]
Port Name: [Unknown]
Stopped scanning at 1:27:03 AM on Port: 65001

Does anyone know of a way to set the IP and Port in the iProntoEdit to control it communications from broadcast to direct IP link? I did find a registry key that was related to iProntoEdit at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Philips Electronics N.V.\iProntoEdit\iProntoIpAddress which is set to 127.0.0.1 (localhost) which I changed with no impact it still tries the broadcast on port 20000.

Daniel Tonks what version of the software are you using?

Thanks,
Opus

Phallus,

Your joking me right, one of the systems I used is a fresh install of less then 5 days old, how is that going to fix anything? I agree that it is a problem with iProntoEdit. I did more testing last night, and here is what I found out; if I do the upload from device 3 times (all error out) next download to device 2 times (all error out) then go back and click on the upload again I can sometimes see the iPronto, but then I get a application error, this happens on all my systems. Might be the software has the network timeout set to low.

BTW what do you mean "activate DHC" do you mean DHCP? If so I've tried both ways, with no luck.

I have a Linksys WAP but I also have a DELL WAP, which I'm going to try next.

Thanks,
Opus

Hi Opus,

I got a Linksys WAP too and it works fine, so not sure that's the problem. What's the model? Do you have a separate router, or is it built in?

GF,
It is a BEFW11S4 which is in Access Point Mode with a Linksys BEFSR41 as my router. Everything works fine on the iPronto related to the network just have a problem with iProntoEdit talking.

Peter,
I'm not ignoring you but I'm at the office right now so can't take calls.

Thanks,
Opus

OK, got it to work, I reset the IP on the iPronto to fixed IP, turned off the encryption on the WAP and pressed the Download button three times and it started working. I still think they need to update the software a bit :)

Thanks ALL for the help,
Opus

It works OK for me with 128-bit encryption... however I do also have everything set static (since back in January/February there were a lot of DHCP issues)... but that doesn't mean it's still not a software problem. :-)

Well I was able to get the 48BIT encryption to work with the Linksys WAP but I had to enter all four HEX keys in. I have had a few non-Linksys WiFi cards that have been picky connecting to the Linksys so I should have tried the multiple HEX codes in the first place. Mind you I still have to hit the download button several times to get it to find it the first time but after that works great the rest of that session.
