an update :

My unit is still down, same as before does not see the WAP. Now Philips have been very nice and promised me a swap so I am waiting for this to happen.

I had another thought... is anyone else out there using a dial up connection ? I have a proxy (analogX) for my net connection.

Could the problem be that the EPG looks for an update it does not get. This happens over several days (10 in my case) and then assumes the network is unavailable.

With my setup the epg looks for the update at about 6am when I am not connected.

The unit seems then to permanantly loose network connection overnight...

Just a mad theory, hope my new one does not do the same.

I sould say that when it works (signal indicator lit on front panel) all is well.

I understand Andrew's frustation.. I am also having the same problems.. I would set up the ipronto and netx to work the equipment using a Netgear router.. They will loose connection with each other within hours or at the very least overnight.. I usually have to reset all pieces in the system (ipronto, netx, and router) to get everything back online again..

I have been on the phone with Philips 5-6 times.. I have replaced both the ipronto and the netx. The only thing that has not changed is the netgear router..

They have raised my case up to the next level of tech, to see if the ipronto, netx, and netgear router dont like working with each other. I have yet to get an answer back from them..

Andrew,

If you are still having issues with your unit then give me a shout off group (phil at avaddict dot tv) - I can't promise anything off hand but I'll see if I can sort something for you.

I'm having similar problems with a custumers ipronto
it keeps the network connection but it stops seeing the netx.
power cycling the netx fixes it
I'm using a linksys 54g router and wap to extend the range both 54g

Well, as of the last few days you can add me to the growing list of people who have an iPronto that will not see the wireless network :(

My iPronto has worked (almost) flawlessly since buying it (from a UK dealer) in February. I noticed day before yesterday that it had no network icon so tried the usual reboots and changing from fixed to DHCP and back again etc to no avail. What is very sdtrange is occasionally, and for no apparent reason, the network icon will reappear and I can browse etc, but as soon as the screen goes off the network icon disappears and will not come back on, other than occasionally after loads of fiddling. Always disappears immediately the screen goes off though.

I have been running firmware 1.6.21 since the beta testing and have held off upgrading to 1.6.22. However, after being directed to Philips by my dealer, who by the way were not at all interested in offering any support, but if it isn't fixed soon I'll be taking back for a replacement), they suggested I force a firmware update.

The press reset button whilst pressing scroll wheel did not work, and funnily enough the Philips guy could not get his to do that either, saying it must be server problems. I did however take a risk and when I managed to get the network icon back immediately made it do a firmware update which it did but it has made no difference at all.

I have, at this time, two observations about the iPronto.

Firstly, when it works it works well but when it doesn't it is a pile of shite.

Secondly, I would have expected far better support both from my dealer (who btw I spent over £13k with when I bought the iPronto :(, shame on you, and from Philips and believe they are letting us all down badly with this product.

Anyway, I will keep trying a number of different things over the weekend and if no joy will be taking it back.

BTW, I too have a Netgear router/wireless AP (834G) but it has worked flawlessly for 6 months so do not believe it can be that. More likley a poor software or driver implementation in the later firmware.

Wattsn,
very interesting, are you using a dial-up or always on broadband connection ?

Sounds just like what mine was doing.... Philips have had mine for over a month now, very frustrating.

Unlike you I bought from the US, I am very surprised you have such poor support from a UK dealer after spending a fortune with them. you should be able to get a swap easily being a UK unit.

My feeling here is a software / firmware problem but who knows ! It would be nice for someone from Philips to comment on this issue here on the forum.

Anyone from philips reading this ?

Hi Andrew

Always on Broadband. Like you I'm appalled at the service but it's not the first time the dealer has shjwon their true colours :(

Also, I wouldn't hold your breath for Philips. I truly believe they couldn't give a damn about us Pronto users and believe they now see the iPronto as a thorn in their side. I'd love to be proven wrong but I don't think I will be.

Well, I may have fixed my Pronto. How? Trying all sorts of settings on my wireless AP and eventually, switching it to 802.11b only (rather than g&b). It would now appear to connect to the wireless network everytime.

TBH, this is not a problem because with the iPronto on the wireless network it (the wireless network) would only ever work at 11Mbps anyway and I have now removed all my other 54Mbps wireless bridges and replaced with wired connections.

I reckon there is something in the later firmware versions (1.6.21 on) that has caused this. Will be good to see if Philips identify and fix it (maybe that's hoping too much), but for now I'm happy again and hope it stays this way.
