Will there *ever* be any use made of these hardware features (SD/MMC and USB slots) ???

Or have we all paid a premium price for a product that has redundant hardware built-in ?? Perhaps someone from the iPronto development team could comment?

It would be nice to be able to use an SD/MMC card as writeable memory, e.g. for cookies, bookmarks and downloadable files and music when surfing the internet with the iPronto.....

Great question. Especially if adding a SD memory card would speed up performance.

Was on the phone with support the other day (NOTE: iPronto LCD screen not very good at surviving falls to the floor :( ) and I asked about the extra hardware. Support for USB keyboards is in the works.

"Support for USB keyboards is in the works." For what purpose? Surely use of the SD/MMC slot for backup and loading would be far more useful. Or am I missing something.

Personally I think Philips deserve a rocket up the you know where. (9 months some have owned this device and sold with the marketing blurb of having expansion capability via Sd/MMC and USB and what have we seen. Diddly squat. Nada. Nothing.

I was involved in the recent beta programme and loads of suggestions were pit forward for furthering this product and really starting to use some of the power of this device. I too would like to see some info from Philips on their plans for this platform. So far I'm beginning to feel it's gonna go the same way as my old Philips CDi player - to the technology rest home in the sky where it bumbles on with limited functionality and, to be honest, only basic functions and little use.

Come on Philips. Do all of those people who have paid lots of money for their (your) devices a big favour and at least give us an indication/idea of what you are planning for us :)

Thank you.

While I am waiting and waiting and waiting for Philips to automatically, soon, well, soonish anyway, send me the email that lets me get into the site so I can download the iPronto software, I gotta ask:

Do I correctly conclude from the above and from the short icf instructions in the manual that, in order to use a computer to program this remote, I have to go out and buy a wireless network?

When I go to my customer's house to program, do I take the wireless network with me?

At this point I do not want internet connection. I just want to load an icf into the thing.

added note: it is ten minutes later and the super-spiffy computers at Philips have not yet autoresponded with whatever they will send me so that I can get into the site and download the program. How disappointing -- a free Canadian JOKE site responded in about twenty seconds, and this is the longest ANY site has ever taken to send a confirmation. Makes me skeptical about their high-tech capabilities.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

You will have to take a wireless access point with you that you can plug into the PC/Laptop so you can transfer the icf file to the pronto. Or a wireless Access Point standing alone with a wireless wi-fi card in the PC might even be easier.

I know of no other way to program the ipronto

added note: it is now the next day and Philips has not sent me the email that they say I need to log in to the part of their site where I can download the iPronto software.

Ernie,

You don't have to wait. You also can download the last version of iPronto Editor software here at Remote Central files area (map "Original PC Software").

Kees,
thanks. I had actually finally realized that it might be here, not behind the firewall that Philips has erected to keep its customers from using their newest technology until they get around to opening the gates a little bit. This reminds me of waiting for a ride at one of the Disneylands, except I have no idea how many people are waiting, and Philips aren't telling.
