I have been searching for how to make the channel up down buttons on the iPronto be sensitive to the screen, that is have different IR codes based upon which screen is being displayed. I am using prontoEdit and have the bad feeling that the IR properties for the hard buttons on the bottom of the unit are dependent and specified only on the global properties of the iPronto.

Please tell me it isn't so! That would be an interesting step backwards.

Sorry Barry,

I'm afraid thats not possible.
I think however Philips could solve the problem with a future software upgrade.

So far, Bad luck

What was Philips thinking. They got it right on the Pronto and pronto Pro. Normally Volume wants to be punched through, but channel selection (prior/next)? That is always a component specific function.

If they do it as a firmware upgrade they will have to change iprontoEdit and other things to have the right screens to allow a global default screen (iPronto Properties) and the ability to set device properties on a per device basis.

i can work around it in my system, but I should not have to for the money this device costs.

All control operations in my home theater are controlled by a PC. The PC issues all IR commands, all RS232 commands, and all X10 commands. It also knows exactly what source component is in use at the current time (Tivo-1, Tivo-2, STB, etc.) The PC gets its commands from the iPronto which in effect tells the PC what "Button" on what "screen" was pressed. The PC then deduces what actions to take based upon what iPronto button was pressed and what the current system state is of the components. Ergo a single IR command says that the iPronto Global Channel Up button was pressed, It then determines which component is being used as the video source and then issues the correct IR command for that component. Obviously the iPronto never issues a macro (All Macro work is done in the PC) thereby eliminating the having to keep pointing the iPronto at the IR receiver. Also allows me to have discrete on/off even if the component does not; providing no one touches the component's "toggle power" button

Hope that helps

Barry .... THE Barry? of IT fame at NG?

Must be ... given the PC controller.

Great to run into you here.

BTW, how do you solve the toggling power switches in general.

Hi, Connie. yes it is me. I solve the toggling power switches, ideally by not buying things that have them. None of my components have toggling power switches at this time except for a HD cable box, which I just leave on all of the time. In today's modern A/V components, especially those with no moving parts, the difference in power consumption between standby and powered is almost zero. I turn on the master toggle normally in the rear, and then based upon the presence or absence of discrete on/off leave the unit in operational mode all of the time.

By the way where are you these days. Drop over for a drink. Drop me a line at [email protected]
