I currently have a crestron system in my media room which controls the AV system, as well as the lighting. I am interested in changing my controller to an ipronto instead of the crestron. I figure that I can use the network extender and place ir emitters on all of my components, just like the current system has. I don't know how to get this working with the lighting system however. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to operate the crestron lighting system using an ipronto?

I dont't know the Crestron system but is it an IR or an RF system? If it's IR, than it should be done with the iPronto. See my ICF on: [Link: remotecentral.com]regards, Kees

It is a rf based system. The controller receives the rf signal from the panel, and then sends out the commands to the various components. Most of the signals that it sends out are ir signals via wire emmiters, but the lighting system is separate. I don't believe that there are any ir signals involved there.

Sorry, RF can't be done.
RF is only used as "bridge to bridge". At the end it converts the RF signal into IR again.

to control light , you can find interface to connect to the dimmer - ir with contact sec , go to the website www.corvo.fr

it is www.corvo.com, it's a french company. One question though, how am I supposed to hook up this device in order to be able to remotely control my ambient lights?

If the lighting control is a Crestron product, it is RS 232 controlled. You can use a product from Xantech that is a IR to Rs 232 converter to link to the Crestron lighting system. But I must question your motives, the Crestron system is more reliable and robust than the IPronto. Your only gains using the IPronto would be EPG and web surfing. Unless you have a black and white creston panel....

The answer is yes you can but as Bruce points out should you?
You can add a CNIRGW to you Crestron system and use the pcf. file in the ProntoNG files section.
You can upgrade your Crestron control procesor to ethernet and perhaps x panel and your iPronto browser may work.
Is your lighting control system made by Crestron or only controlled by Crestron? If it is RS232 controlled you can use an IR to RS232 converter from Xantech.
In anycase you are sure opening a can of worms here.
