I am just getting my new iPronto fired up. Neither the EPG or the iPronto page will load-oddly enough, I discovered my browser pages ARE working-so I am getting through on my network. So, is the problem on my end or theirs?

Thanx for any help!

Hi there,

I've been having MASSIVE headaches with this thing since I got it. I wish I never did!

I've got the oldest firmware version (1.3), and I've been trying to update it for the last two weeks, since I got it, and I keep getting the message 'Can't coneect to update server boot.pronto.philips.com', although I had the thing up and running on my WIFI network from the start.

WHat's more, there's no in-built code database on this thing, only one of the layouts has 'M' views, and they're all remote windows-only - not browser; the thing won't activate my EPG keys no matter how hard I try, and as you say, recently, it won't even load the ipronto page. I've tried every configuration possible, disabled my firewall, changed the settings more times than I can count, and still nothing!

I spoke to Philips a few times, and at first they told me that the problems were on their side, and that their update server was down, but then a few days ago, they said it must be my firewall, and then b4 the weekend, the ipronto page went black. That's from their side, I'm sure, because it's the first time this happens, but I don't know what the truth is regarding my other problems.

Have you managed to download new firmware from the server in the last two weeks? If you have, let me know, and if you haven't could you do me a big favour and try it now? If you're getting the same issues, at least then I'll know it's not just me.

Many Thanks in Advance,

Moory

Moory:

I've been trying consistantly over the this weekend to connect to their page-NADA! The problem has to be at their end.

If our browser works, what else is there?? Is it a problem with our units? I haven't been able to download anything. Sounds like we have exactly the same issues.

DAMN!!

This thing is a piece of S#@T!!

I mean, for so much money I'd expect it to fix my dinner and dance for me after, instead it's a useless piece of junk! Philips dropped the ball BIG TIME on their top-of-the-line remote. Ludicrous!

I wrote them a complaint email last week, and I haven't heard a word yet. How can server problems last for two weeks without a word of warning from them?

Jeff, what firmware version have you got? Is it the same as mine? Are all iProntos white elephants like this or are we just saddled with a bad batch?

I've always avoided Philips products like the plague all my life, for once I bent my rule and this is what I get! I guess I was right to do so - won't be making THAT mistake again any time soon...

Have you guys tried setting your network settings manually, and NOT keeping it to DHCP? Just do DHCP then go back to fixed.

I don't know when exactly this was fixed, but there were some bad network problems in early firmware revisions, particularly when trying to update the firmware. When booting, hold the scroll wheel down until you get a special setup menu, then check your network settings (everything, from IP to DNS servers) and adjust if necessary. Only *then* try a firmware update (marking the remote for update is also an option under this setup menu).

I just tried an update this instant and it worked just fine... the latest is V1.5.6.

Although I will say that the iPronto portal seems to be having minor issues (but does come up) and the EPG update is giving me a strange error - "Your device is not recognized as an authentic Philips device. Please contact support (401)".

Is there a big market in counterfeit iProntos?

Dan,

Thanks for your helpful advice, but I've already done all that - I've even assigned the iPronto a reserved (fixed) IP address from my router, tried all my ISP's DNS servers, opened all TCP/UDP ports for the device, and STILL I'm nowhere!

When you got your iCrappo, was it pre-loaded with a firmware version later than 1.3? If so, then I know for sure the old firmware's at fault. I think it's a major oversight on Philips' part not to allow for an offline upgrade route - to 'push' the firmware from the PC to the remote the same way the iCF files can be sent.

Oh, well, I'll try one more time, maybe thru some miracle it'll work this time, though there's not a thing I haven't tried yet.

Thanks Again

Moory :-)

well ....the story continues ...... got the one i had that was running 1.3 to update to the 1.5.6 ( the internet was working great on it while the other 1.5.6 remote still shut down)- and now it shuts now my network exactly like the first one i had ..... hmmmmm After about 4 hours shows 0 signal on the antenna meter even though my laptop works fine and shows good signal ... but around 8 hrs or so locks my network up completely until the access point is rebooted ....

Going to try and force the D/l again now that the servers back up and working ...... maybe it does have something to do with you what version you came from thereoy... maybe the download doesnt hit all the information until it marks it and you re download ... I noticed it did take longer to D/L this time so i will be to check it about 4 hrs ...

Also anyone have two or more NetX's they use ??? Does the configuration process work correctly and can you rename the second one? Dont know if these problems are related or different , but i can edit the NetX information either ...

Actually, I started off with firmware *older* than 1.3. Scarey stuff. ;-) I often had the iPronto in a state that looked like sure death, but it always came back.

Accessing the net during normal use wasn't a problem for me on the old firmware, but sometimes it would "corrupt" certain network settings when connecting to the net during the firmware update process. I'd often go into the special setup menu and find no DNS servers, or an IP address that's completely wrong.

Also, make sure you aren't trying to use WEP or something while doing this... just make your AP wide open and auto-configuring to eliminate a lot of variables.

I don't have the NetX running right now, but I do have two iProntos that currently work fine with my access point along with two laptops - it's a Linksys WAP11.

there has to be some interaction going on here ... i just cant figure it out ... my 2nd-tester ipronto was working perfectly ... as far as keep working my network... until i upgraded to 1.5.6 ...now in my week of messing with them- i have 2 iprontos , two netXs,three wap11 access points in two different networks (in different houses) all with the same results. the access points are wide open , i tried to use wep first , and after the first day of shut down , turned off and went MAC only , and now no security at all ....... and even today, after forcing a entire update from the hidden menu, still the same results, i will try and retype all the info in the special menu , but so far when i have looked at it , it has been dead on perfectly accurate for the network information according to my router.

hmmmmmm

any other thoughts?

A little slower please...I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say "do DHCP then to go back to fixed."
Isn't this an either-or setting?

My set up has a router with a STATIC IP (allows 5 addresses), set to DHCP. It assigns dynamic address to WAP and to my desktop, laptop and iPronto, right?

When I look at ipconfig on my desktop computer that is connected to router, it doesn't list DNS servers. What am I missing??

Should I set iPronto to one of the other static addresses? Is "static" and "fixed" address the same thing?

Much thanks in advance.

when you select dhcp in the ipronto setup menu - network tab, it "Searches" for all the settings and then you can select "fixed ip" and the ipronto will use those settings each time instead of "searching" again...

hope im not losing something in there...

guess what .....

I purchased a Belkin54G access point last night, pluged it in, unplugged the linksys stuff, set the ip's to the same as my Linksys WAP11 and ...............

it working right out of the box, my pronto, or the network hasnt crashed yet..... I was able to enter the netX config modes and relabel their names and set their fixed Ip's right off- something i cold never do before. also it was still alive overnight .

I want a little more time before i jump up and down but ......

i still wonder why - with the linksys .......
