O.K. Philips, I know you're out there. I've finally had it. I've put up with all of the product defects and waited patiently for "updates" that don't work. Now my ipronto reboots every morning. A process that takes hours to complete. I can't even watch TV on a Sunday morning because the unit hasn't yet finished its daily reboot that began around seven a.m. And God help you if you forgot to plug it in the night before -- when the batteries go dead it ususally a full day process to coax it back to life.

The bugs are still legion. You know what they are -- I don't need to list them all out for you. So here you are.

Consider this your notice under the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, the Consumer Fraud Act of the State of Illinois and of whatever other state you happen to do business. You have ten working days to contact me and make arrangements to refund my money in full ($1,810.49 from Tweeter -- I have the receipt). If I do not hear from you, I fully intend to file a consumer fraud calss action to recover my money along with the purchase price of everyone else who bought this unit.

Have your attorney check my credentials. This is not a joke. If anyone else on this board wants to join-in, please drop me an e-mail.

Sincerely, Ethan E. Trull.

This problem spawned my original thread inquiring about changing the EPG download time. I thought maybe that was what was causing the problems...

I sugested a class action suit in an earlier thread, but it did not get a response. I'm happy and unhappy with the Ipronto. The same problem has happen to my Ipronto. The cure was to force a firmware download. After that mine works.

I've got two iProntos here (one has a bad display but otherwise works) and for the past month or so they've both been working fine - no crashes and the nightly EPG updates do work. However, the updates do take quite a while and tend to happen too late in the morning (they really should run from 3-5AM at latest). Rebooting should only take a few minutes though, not hours. If you press the RESET button and it takes hours to reboot, then you need to force a firmware update.

I have the latest firmware. I have gone throught he "forced update" process several times. Sometimes it is the only thing that gets it to come back to life after the batteries go dead (which is every time I forget to plug it in after use).

If Philips has any integrity they will take my unit back. Want to bet they don't?

Ethan.

Ethan did you activate your EPG subscription. My device reboots every night between 04:00 AM and 06:00 AM (after it downloaded EPG data). The back of the EPG view shows the 'Next Scheduled automatic EPG download time'. At that time my device starts downloading and reboots before 07:00 AM.

I've been keeping an eye on my iPronto lately, and have timed the full automated EPG download and reboot process at 11 minutes.

Sorry to hear so many of you are having problems. I was going to buy a unit, but will hold off until Philips works out the bugs. Hope things work out for you. I'll stay posted.

You're going to sue. ! ?
Consumer Fraud Class Action Lawsuit. ! ?

If you DO resort to suing them, why don't you include a request for them to award you a sense of perspective (if you indeed you win) since THAT appears to be defective too.

If you have a truly defective unit, I highly suspect that either Tweeter or Philips will make it right for you. BUT every problem that I have had(and most of the ones I read about on this site) have been cured or curable by Philips firmware updates. Good luck to you.

Hey Sparticus:

I guess you're right. My perspective must be off. I'll bet you'd buy another one. Want to buy this one?

Why should I expect an $1800 remote to work. I must have my head up my ass.

E.

Interresting prospect. I actually read this forum BEFORE I bought mine and I do regret purchasing it.
I've only had it one day and the display stopped working. The hard buttons work though. I have tried hard rebooting it but the display still doesn't work.

Philips wants me to send it back to them so they can keep it for a couple of weeks. guess I got to use it for a couple of hours my first night though I probably won't see it for the next month.

This type of crap really sucks. A manufacturer (Philips) that sells an expensive piece of equipment that on occaision works for the lucky ones.

hammer, sorry to hear about your problems. Philips realy needs to fix this product fast. Like you, I have looked at the posts on this forum and really feel uneasy about buying a product with so many unhappy customers. I really want to but one, but not until they clean up their act. Hope things work out for you.
