Dear Remote Central visitors,

Although not very visible until today, Philips has always been here visiting the site every day.

Today we want to take the opportunity to express our appreciation to you for the valuable feedback you gave, you are giving and we hope you will continue to give us. Your passionate e-mails and posts (all of them) are a strong motivation for the entire Philips Pronto Team. The feedback on Remote Central is also a way to help influence new generations of Pronto hardware and software. It has been with your help that the current Pronto line has introduced many more features than the original TS1000.

Obviously this is possible thanks to Daniel and to the beautiful place he has created. As a manufacturer, Philips did not participate actively in the discussions out of respect to the independent community and Daniel. Unfortunately this already happens way to often in discussion forums where manufacturers use the anonymity a forum can bring to influence consumers. Daniel and Remote Central have gained their reputation because of Daniels honesty in his reports and by keeping his site a user community and not a marketing site for manufacturers.

We met Daniel again at the Cedia 2003 Show and he has invited us to take a more active role on Remote Central interacting with the community in explaining, offering feedback and updates to Pronto products. We gladly accept the invitation and will participate with the “ProntoTeam” username. The ProntoTeam will answer objectively and unbiased on Pronto questions.

Please keep in mind that we are working on taking your feedback and developing future Pronto remote controls. Therefore we will not be able to answer each and every question. We will do our best to communicate more about upcoming releases: when they will be posted and if we are working on a solution for a bug you have encountered. If you however run into something that you believe has not been documented please use the feedback forms on http://www.Pronto.Philips.com

As a heads up the New iPronto Editor and firmware shown at CEDIA went live on Tuesday 9.16.03 offering:

Dashboard
· Improvement on the readability on iPronto through better rendering and anti-aliasing of fonts.
Remote control (in combination with iProntoEdit 2.2)

· Support for transparent button backgrounds for easy button placement and more advanced designs.

· A new home page for the remote control, that makes use of the transparency feature.

· Support for iProntoEdit 2.1, which offers merging of different iCF files.

Network Extender
· Support for network extender to control devices that are not in line-of-sight.

Electronic Program Guide
· Extension of the Electronic Program Guide to also include European program information.

iProntoEdit 2.2
· Support for iPronto Network Extender to control devices that are not in line-of-sight.

· Create pages with transparent button backgrounds for easy button placement and more advanced designs.

· Add Portable Network Graphic files (PNG) with pre-defined alpha-channel to define transparency behavior.

Problems solved
· Remote control inconsistency solved that caused malfunctioning of buttons with learned IR codes. Now buttons that are created as a copy of another button can have their own unique learned codes.

· General improvements on all applications regarding stability and performance.

Glad that you now have an offical presence and I hope that you will be able to let us all know about releases before they happen instead of us having to always keep checking.

Still think the Ipronto is in a class of its own and is a great remote.

Dear Pronto Team / Daniel,

I am trying to develop iPronto as an effective tool and controller for A/V installations. I believe it is a viable alternative to Crestron and AMX systems.

I am currently researching and testing its versatility and limitations.

Any updates, news, releases or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Is there anyway that functionality can be enhanced, enabling more control over the computering power and functions of this system?
Is there any form of media player available or on the cards?
Is it possible to install a Linux O.S. on an iPronto?

Many Thanks.

I too have the same interests as Robert Mathews. I currently have 4 Pronto's in the house, 2 Pronto Pro's and two original Pronto's.

I am interested in a capability where I can issue a TCP/IP sequence as a response to a button press or screen touch that would be fielded by a PC on the network. Obviously you do just that for the Netx Device, sending the equivqalent of IR timing. Could you open the protocol for communications to the netX device so one could write a PC resident handler to act as the NetX device and control things. That is the heart of home automation and would open up many home automation possibilities for the iPronto. The sequences could be very simple, all that is needed is a number indicating what was touched on the ipronto. The PC is smart enough to do all of the rest.

I was incorrect in my analysis of how the netx works. it does not appear that it is communicated with in a WiFi sense (TCP/IP or UDP) other then when looking for thier presence. I would really like to see an ability to send data via TCP/IP or UDP from the iPronto to a network device via IP address, and to be able to send an arbitrary string in that manner. Yes I know some of that exists via the web browser, but why not supply the basics. I touch a key on the screen and a message is sent via TCP/IP or UDP. Think of the possibilities.

From a bug/shortcoming point why does it always say learned Command. i can change the text to say what i want but the next time I load the icf, it has reverted back to the fixed string "Learned Command". I can change the text in other Pronto's, and the fixed string is redundent as the (C) meand learned command.

Philips, wheeeeeeere aaaaaaare youuuuuuuuu......

Question to Daniel Tonks,
How do you think about the poor Philips service, response and presence in this forum.
How about your connections at Philips "iPronto Team". Is iPronto (and it's "team") dead?

regards,
Kees

Hi milkman,

we all love our iPronto (well, I like it, it's no love :-)

The device could be much, much more if Philips would at least publish the sources and the dev system for this box, some infos behind the operating system, how to open the device for updates, how to troubleshoot if upload fails ....

Let's say, as a final gift to all loyal iPronto users.

But nothing.

I will never buy anything from that dutch company again!!!

Best regards,

Kalle
