I recently purchased the SST-659 and I want to use it to control my Sony KP-53HS10, my Dish Network 811 receiver, and my Dish Network 501 receiver.

I have the 811 standard audio/video connected to the Sony’s video4 port, and the HD component video/audio connected into the Sony’s vidio5 port (HD).

I have the 501 standard audio/video connected to the Sony’s video4 port.

Because the 811 and 501 are in the same rack, I had to set the 811’s receiver and remote to ‘Remote ID 1’, and the 501’s receiver and remote to ‘Remote ID 2’, otherwise when using either of the remotes, it would control both receivers at the same time.

I’ve gone out to the Harmony site and added all of my devices, and set it up so when I watch TV, it turns on the Sony, turns on the 811, and sets the video input to video4. This works fine. I’ve set up an activity to watch TV via the 501, by it turns on the TV, sets the video input to video1, turns off the 811, but doesn’t turn on the 501.

Is there a way to program the Harmony so when it switched to control the 501, it sets the Remote ID to 2?

Select "More Options" for the 501 device from the Harmony website and then select "Change the Setup...(characterization)." A drop down on the next screen will show something like "Bell Satellite 1" -- change this to "Bell Satellite 2" and see if that works. If not, then you could always just re-learn all of the commands from your 501's remote.

I tried the re-learn thing, and it didn't help. With the Dish remotes and receivers, especially the UHF models, they have an internal capability to assign a unique address to the remote, and receiver. This way if you have two UHF remotes in the same area, they don’t try to control each others receiver.

On the Dish remote, if you need to change the internal address of the remote, you push and hold the SAT button until the SAT, TV, VCR, and AUX buttons light up. Then you select a number from 1 to 11 (remote ID), press the # key, then the record button. If you were also changing the receiver, you would be at the system info screen.

I guess I could do a custom button program of the SAT button, but I wonder if the 658 has the capability to handle the unique remote ID.

I went back into the home page and selected Bell Satellite 2 and used that for the setup. So far it looks like it's working.
