"Long time watcher, 1st time poster" I have the sst-659 and love it, but I have a couple of questions for the experts in here:
1. Confused between Discrete codes and Hex codes. I have seen codes for specific commands that are 3-4 digits long and also several lines of 4 digit codes.Which is which?
2. How Do I get these into the remote?
3. Where can I Find these codes?
4. How do I know which code set my device uses?
I know thats alot of questions but I am not to bright when it comes to this kinda stuff. any help you guy's can offer me would be greatly apprectated. Thanks in advance.

discrete codes are codes that have a known effect on the equipment.

hex: is a numbering system (like decimal)where the digits are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,a,b,c,d,e,f instead of 0-9.

what happens is hex is a good way to represent binary (used by everything electronic) in short hand, so it is used often.

The Pronto uses a format for IR that looks like 0000 002a 001f..... several lines of stuff that look like that. A manufacturer would usually give something that looks like 12xf1 or just f1.... so all of these can be different hex representations of the same code. The Harmony can import Pronto hex, so that is what you want.

O.k. all good information. But please be patient with me, where in the Harmony Web site do I input the Hex codes?

On your home page, click on advanced, then scroll down that page and click on "visit the infrared analysis center." Click on "select an active device." Then select (click on) the device that you want to enter hex codes for. Then click on manual, and, in the data value field, enter the entire hex code. Then click on process. It should say the conversion was a success, then you can name the command you just entered. You should then find the command in the options to add to your customized LCD buttons. Good luck!
