Saw this posted at AVSForum, wondering if anyone here had heard anything about it. It looks like a Harmony 520, but with 8 LCD buttons, and a recharging base like the 880...ie the best of both worlds! It's on page 14 of the Harmon Kardon brochure here: [Link: manuals.harman.com] |

That looks SO much better then the 880, and it seems to have all of the same features. I wonder how much it will cost. A google serach didn't turn up anything.

I searched all over the internet, and nothing comes up. It look like Harman Kardon finally got smart. Their remotes were not very good, and I was glad to get rid of mine. Will the support be done by Logitech, or Harman Kardon? If it is done by Logitech, then even better.

Well, other members have commented that the 520 migh have a more upscale model and here's proof. Note the taller LCD screen w/color and 8 side buttons. It makes me think of a Harmony 880...DONE RIGHT! Harmon Kardon's last attempt with Microsoft was noble but flawed. A rebadged/private lable unit from Logitech makes much more sense. I hope it will be marketed as a Harmony as well, so one doesn't have to pay a H/K price premium. The factory remote for my H/K receiver is probably the most poorly designed remote I have ever come across. |

From what I can see, it's got all of the capabilities of the 880 except that it's missing the Media, Up, and Down buttons. If $299 is going to be the MSRP, how does HK justify the TC30 being $50 more than the 880?

I think they'll get the $50 because of the HK brand. Pretend for a second that you were setting up a sweet home theater system and you never heard of Remote Central (gasp, i know)... if you saw a Harman Kardon remote sitting next to a Logitech (hey, aren't they a computer mouse company?) the $50 would be easily justified. I also like the 520-esque form factor better. I should also point out that they are going to be promoting this strongly with the HK bridge - they're iPod dock - so the attach rate should be considerable. |
