My URC MX-850 has been superb for many, many years now but it is getting a bit "long in the tooth" as well as having some keys that are working intermittently. So I was wondering what might be the best replacement for the 850 nowadays?

FWIW, I am looking for something with which programming might be similar to the 850 so that I might possibly be able to import the old macros as well as reducing the learning curve. Additionally, I'd want something that had codes for the new Vizio V-series of TVs.

Also, I know that URC will not give consumers "updatable" software. I'll need a Harmony model that will allow me to update the software and IR codes, and program and download macros myself.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, Bill

I doubt that you'll find anything that can use the programming/macros from the 850 except for another 700/800/850. The software for the 850 ended back around 2015 and hasn't been updated since. The new CCP software for MX-900 forward won't program the 850 or read the programming.

You can replace the conductive keypad on the 850 to make it work like new:

And here is how to open the MX-850:

You can learn the codes to the 850 from the TV remote. Did you try the discretes I added in the other thread? I'd also take the opportunity to clean the inside while it's apart.  70% or 90% rubbing alcohol will do.

What's the latest URC remote that can be programmed with a computer and downloaded to the remote? AND . . . does it support the new Vizio V-series TV and can I get the software needed to program the remote?

FWIW, I am a retired programmer - there's no way I'm paying someone else to do my programming!

Thanks, Bill

My second career was as a programmer. Retired also. All of the latest URC remotes are PC programmable BUT you need software called CCP. It isn't available to customers unless you find a dealer/seller that will give it to you when you purchase a remote. I've read that some will and I've read that nobody will. URC will definitely not give it to you.

Most if not all of the new URC remotes have color screens, less LCD buttons than the 850 and one can use or make a specific icon for each LCD button- like a DVD icon.

Did you see my post in your other thread about how to add and test the HEX code? Are you sure it doesn't work? Also check my additional post there on something to try.
