Here is my setup:
1.Vizio TV LCD 3D
2.Direct TV HR54-700
3.Yamaha Home Theater RX V795A
4.PS3
5.Apple TV 4
6.Amazon Alexa Dot

I am confused about the difference in these 2 products.
I was looking at the Harmony Companion that comes with a remote and the hub.

Then I saw the smart connect that comes with a remote and a smart connect hub.

Do these 2 hubs do have the same function? I am concerned about the PS3 and having the blue tooth function.

If I just bought the hub and downloaded the software I could control everything with a Iphone or Ipad. And not use a remote

And if I just bought the hub and a 650 remote would that work.

Or could I use the Companion and use the Hub to talk to the PS3 and use the iphone Ipad app and the remote.

Thanks for checking this out.

They are the same. The 650 is not compatible with either. If you never intend to use the remote, then just get the hub. However I think you're going to find that phone/tablet control gets old fast.

You can control a PS3 from any universal remote via a cheap ($12) dongle like a Nyko Bluwave. So if that's the only reason you're considering the hub, you can get by with just a common IR remote like the 650.

Also consider that an IR controllable BD player runs around $40, far less than any bluetooth capable remote system. In that case, you'd just use the PS3 for gaming, and no remote control would be required. The PS3 appears to be the main reason you have to resort to expensive control options.

Thanks for the info. I have a blumoo and a Flirc dongel but I could never get to work on the PS3. You are right about the Ipad option.
It does get old fast. I would like to have a remote. The PS3 I use it more for movies than gaming. I also have a Amazon Dot. I don't really care about the voice commands but whatever I get if it has that feature I would at least try it. The priority is getting all of gear on one remote.

Well I have decided to go with the Harmony 650. It will be able to control everything I have except the PS3. I will at least be down to 2 remotes. I am going to try and figure out the Flirc dongel that I have. I did look at some other Blueray players and that might be an option as well. I need the player to be receive IR signals and be 3D as well.

I have a update if anyone wants to know how I solved my PS3 issue. I have the 650 remote and I found a Harmony Adapter (Not a Harmony HUB) on ebay for around 30 Bucks. It works perfectly with the Harmony 650. Thanks for all of the advice.
