I've been a loyal Philips Pronto user for the last 14 years. Tsu 1000-2000-3000-7000). I love the Pronto because the level of customization is limited by your own imagination and ability.

I just got a new Comcast X1 box, and from what I have learned from my research is that the Pronto cannot control the X1. It uses an odd set of IR commands that the Pronto was never designed for. I DID have a hell of a time getting it to work with my Yamaha receiver. What can you expect when they were discontinued years ago??

I think that I am ready to get a Harmony Elite. I have some gift cards laying around so those will help with the purchase and I can sell the pronto for a couple bucks. My fear is that I will be dissapointed by the level of customization. On the pronto, if there was a missing function (from any device) that I didn't have on a panel, I could simply add a button in the software and link the IR code to that function. Can I do this on a Harmony in the touchscreen area? Can I add buttons and make the IR code whatever I want?

Ease of programming is not important to me, final functionality is important. I enjoy the challenge sometimes. If this is not possible, is there a remote that is capeable of such functionality? Even better, is there a way I can make the Pronto work with the X1?

You can't add codes to Harmony like you did with Pronto. Best you can do is email the codes to support, and they will add for you.

X1 is XMP protocol which is nearly impossible to learn, but the pronto hex should work fine. I don't understand why it's not working for you.

I find JP1 remotes the most flexible in terms of codes. You can add any codes or protocols you want, even those of your own design. And they are very cheap.

Otherwise, URC or a tablet based remote like iRule is probably your best alternative.

I have no problem adding the prontohex to the program, but where can I find the codes for the X1?

They're probably on this site somewhere, but if you strike out, you can use these to generate your own hex in IRScrutinizer with XMP protocol, device 62, subdevice 16:

Ok, I downloaded Ir scrutinizer. I think I have it set up right. I'm in the "generate" tab, I set the drop down to XMP. I put 62 in the "D" box, I put 16 in the "S" box, and I assume I put "9" in the F box for number 9, or 13 for Channel up then press "generate." It gives me a pronto hex code. I paste it in the custom IR in pronto edit and test the signal, but they all give a "0" command. Am I doing it wrong?

3FG, most of the commands give me a repeating command. How do I set it for a single? If I put in the "3" and test, it gives me a "33."

Comcast recently sent us a couple of new cable boxes, and these have the XR2 remote.  I also own a XR11 remote which I believe is shipped with some X1 systems.  So I'm pretty sure we know which signals need to be sent.

XMP signals have a toggle which is set to 0 for the first frame of a signal and set to 8 for subsequent frames.  However, The Pronto Hex in the link I provided above isn't quite correct: it simply repeats the first frame with toggle of zero.  So your X1 is seeing what it thinks is two button presses.

IrScrutinizer can provide the correct Pronto Hex.  But there is an additional wrinkle.  XMP in its full form sends 16 bits of function data, but in practice most signals are sent with 8 of the 16 bits set to zero.  If the function is encoded in the first 8 bits, and the second 8 bits are set to zero, we describe that signal as XMP-1. That's the one you want.  So select XMP-1 and then fill in the other boxes as you described above.

BTW, it isn't obvious, but you can generate XMP-1 using the XMP protocol in IrScrutinizer by entering e.g. 0x0300 instead of 3.

Thank you for all the help so far. It's humbling at times to realize how much you don't know.

So I am entering the different commands in the "F" box, correct? For example, FF would be a 52 in the F box.

Now I have to convince the wife to keep the Pronto and return the Harmony. She likes the Harmony better.

Hi Jason. I have the same predicament as you as I just got an Arris X1 box with the voice enabled remote. I have a Pronto TSU 3500 and less knowledge than you with respect to programming, but can cut and paste 😀. I have requested assistance in the Pronto section of the forums with no luck. Was wondering if you could shoot me the codes to input into my software. Thanks in advance.

The codes are above in the thread. You need to download irscrutinizer. Set the generate tab to xmp-1, enter the device codes and put the different functions in the "f" box. It will make more sense after you download the program.

You know where to enter the custom ir codes into prontoedit, correct?

Thanks for the information. Just changed my dvr in mid January and didn't have time to play around with modifying my Pronto. I am in Europe now but will return in a few weeks and attempt a reprogram then. I did it once before when I got the previous Cisco Rng200 box. Hoped those codes would work on the X1, but no luck. Appreciate the help.

FYI- Harmony hub now works with Amazon's Alexa for voice command.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
