What is the difference in creating a macro for turning 'on' my satellite using an 'alias' from the 'on' button, vs. using a direct discrete code from the satellite IR Database? Arent they the same? Does it matter which I use?

To answer your non-Harmony question. If you drag a code from the IRDB, your codes will not work if you assign IR ports with a basestation. Aliasing will work properly in that case.
