I almost have the 670 doing what I want it to. One deficiency at this time:
I have set up the DirecTV receiver as a DirecTV HR34, and everything seems fine so far other than I cannot seem to activate the "Volume Up" and "Volume Down" rocker switch. The "Customize buttons" option gives the buttons, but the action box is empty, and there are no volume functions that I can see listed in the drop down box.
If I select the "Learn Function" option, the volume up/down button is not even present in any field.
What am I missing? Should I be using the command codes from a different device?
I could add as a soft button but would like the volume buttons to function.
I have programmed a Harmony 650 as the commends are available. Just not for the 670. I have set lup the Genie as a DirecTV HR34 for the 650, same as for the 670. But not all options are available for the 670.
Hmmmm
Will the 650 setup work in the 670?

"Will the 650 setup work in the 670? No Are you trying to make changes in Devices or in your Activity?  If you are trying to activate the Volume buttons in Devices, you can't and in Devices you can only control that device.  What device do you want to control voulme in your Activity, The TV or are you using an AVR?

I am using a Sony TV and AVR that communicate via Bravia Sync. I control the volume on the TV, which also adjusts volume of the AVR. What I was trying to do is be able to control the volume of the TV (hence, the AVR) while the remote is set on the "DirecTV" Device setting. When I was using a MX-700 URC, they referred to this as a "punch through" in which specified buttons can be set to control one device while the control is set to control a different device.
The 650 allows this, the 670 does not, at least in the commands for the DirecTV receiver.
But, I have come to understand that when the 670 is set to the "Watch TV" Activity, it controls the necessary functions of the DirecTV receiver as well as volume controls of the TV/AVR.
So, I guess I really do not need to do what I originally wanted to do.
Interesting to note, however, that I cannot include the AVR in the "Watch TV"Activity, as, since the TV and AVR communicate, pushing the "Watch TV" activities button actually turns the DirecTV receiver on, then off, but NOT the AVR,which is the device I would expect to act this way, as the TV turns the AVR on and off.
Thanks for your reply.
