I need help.
For the last 3 months I have been trying to get Harmony support to correct an IR database problem.

I have a Pioneer VSA-Ax10i Receiver and the original remote is long gone. My previous Pronto worked fine, but got damaged so I bought the Harmony.
Setup was ok and it worked fine, until I needed to do some Pioneer amp setup changes and discovered the "Enter" command did not work (they call is "Select" in their database).

I contacted their support people and they told me they would update the database. This they did and everything worked fine for 6 months.

Then a few months ago I had to make some changes and following the online update, the "Select" command did not work again. I contacted Support again and have been going in circles for 3 months. They do not seem to accept that there could be an error and ignore that a previous support person fixed this in 10 minutes by correcting the code.

I am at a real loss as I cannot reconfigure the amp and this is really necessary. I don't even know how to find this code so I could send to Harmony.

Any suggestions how to get this code and how to get Harmony to update their database.

This experience does make me question the whole online database way Harmony do things - you are at their mercy!

thanks for any help

1) Try all the commands in device mode.
2) Try the "Discrete Code Hunter" forum under "Jump to" at the bottom of the page
3) Try a similar Pioneer model hoping it has the correct dataset of commands.

Note: When you see a message saying there are updates available for a device, don't blindly update that device. Else, you will get the latest "cleaned up" dataset version, and may find missing commands including some handy ones. Instead, momentarily add a copy of the device (which will get the latest dataset) and check all the commands in device mode first. If your are happy with the new dataset, then proceeds with the update/device replacement.

thanks Jlet.

I used device mode for my amp (VSA-AX10i) but that didn't work
I have looked in the discrtete code hunter but no luck
I have tried using the Select code from a Pioneer VSA AX5 but this didn't work. I have not tried this in device mode, just within the activity, so this is my next step when I get a chance.

Any thoughts on how to get the code? Maybe someone with the original remote could find a way to learn it and let me know. Hopefully Harmony would then take it and update their database

Good advice for the future. If I ever get this to work again I will certainly be much more cautious before introducing "updates".

Remove the Pioneer device from your setup and then re-add... Try it and see if it now works - you might be pleasantly surprised :-)

best

Peter
