Hi,

Im looking to buying a Harmony remote.. The price level for me can give me the Newer "700" or the older "One" remote.. But which one should I go for? I personaly like the looks of the "one" better.

Best Regards

The biggest difference is the touch screen - the 700 only gives you 4 commands with push buttons and the One gives you 8 with a touch screen. However, the 700 has hard color buttons whereas on the One you have to put those on the LCD. I'd take the One every time if the price was close.

i should have elaborated a little more. akirby's right about the touch screen. other big differences:
-screen resolution and color/contrast. The One has a better display in that regard.
-the 700 limits you to only 6 devices, while the One lets you operate up to 15
-the 700 has hard color buttons while the One only offers soft "touchscreen" color buttons in the form of icons, and only for certain devices (not including blu-ray players for some horrible reason).
A good comparison chart may be found at: [Link: harmony-remote-forum.de]

Further clarification on the color buttons. You can add the color commands (blue, red, green, yellow) to any harmony remote. What Squareeyes refers to is that on some models those commands come with color coded icons rather than just having the name of the color in black and white.

There's quite a big price difference between the two, but if the One is in your range then there's no point in going for the basic entry-level 700.

Thx for all the reply's.. Just orderd the Harmony One :D

@hhatkin I can get the One for the same price as the 700 :) that's why I wondered if the newer 700'er was as good or a better buy than the older Harmony One..

I currently use a 676, which has dying buttons.

I called them in hopes of getting an exchange, several people have written that with the problem of buttons being too hard to push, tech support had swapped it out.

They didn't do that, but they did give me the option of 50% off on one of the new remotes. So, if I buy from Logitech, the difference in price would be only about $50 instead of $100.

Can anyone comment about battery life on the 700 or the One? or compare them? Do either of them have 'glow' buttons like the 676 does? Are they both pretty much programmable as much as (or better than) the 676 would be?

Most people in this thread said that the One seems better. If the price is not that bad, is there any reason someone would want to avoid the One?

Thanks for any tips.

No difference in programming - software and features are all the same. The ONE has a good battery life but I always put mine back in the cradle each night so I can't comment beyond one evening's use.

The text on the buttons light up - very easy to read and use. Highly recommended.

The 700 is basically a defeatured One designed to sell at a lower price point. It is "crippled" to less devices than the One and has two less choices on the user programmable touch screen. Recently, the price on the One has gone down so that it makes less sense to opt for the 700. In the U.S., new Ones are running $185 at online retailers and refurbed Ones $150.

The battery life should be similar between the two....not quite as good as the last rechargeable series (520/720) but good enough.

The last few generations of Harmony remotes have motion sensors in them, instead of glow buttons. Just pick them up and the backlight comes on. Very nice.
