What are the differences between the Harmony 1000 and
1100 ?
pick up and edit from my post on avforum uk:
As far as I can tell after using the 1100 for some time is that it's a much-improved/upgraded version of the 1000. If you are happy with your 1000 then you may not be missing too much. Where the 1100 really shines is in its user interface (UI) both in looks and customization.
1100 Hardware:
-Base stations are just about identical.
-Remote finish is, as you've seen in pix, black gloss front touch with a soft black surround and back with tactile "finger bars" on either side of the LCD. Over a period of use I found these ergonomic bars helped map my fingers to the remote and its screen a bit better then the 1000.
-I haven't noticed much difference in IR range between the 1000 and 1100. Both are excellent with my kit.
-I have not tried the 1100 with the Harmony RF extender but I do know that it is compatible.
-1100 does not have sequences like the 1000 does.
-1100 does not emit bluetooth signals (the same is true with most other universal remotes). For PS3 users you will probably need a 3rd-party BT/IR converter.
-Load time after programming the remote is definitely faster than the 1000.
1100 GUI:
-Nice animated transitions
-Appears to take good advantage of the LCD resolution
-There is a host of pre-made "custom" icons from which to choose and you can place them anywhere w/in the same basic gui screen grid as the 1000's.
-Some of the 'custom' icons include (but are not limited to) TiVo thumbs up/down, colored buttons typical to most sat box/blu ray players, xbox360/ps3 button icons (and the 360 xbox logo button), a stop sign(?), transport control icons (play, rec, fw, rw, etc), a general menu, star, return arrow, etc.
-The new buttons and GUI in general look better on the 1100 then the 1000.
-You may add whatever functions you want to the side blades, regardless of device used.
-Favorite channel icons and display are much larger and better implemented. You don't have to have the channel number on top of the icon anymore and the icon size allows for much nicer-looking graphics (I couldn't leave that out).
Overall I like the H1100 over the 1000, but as I stated above, they both function well with my kit, and I've never had any of the 1000 software problems that have plagued other users. The 1100 seems to work a bit faster and feels better in my hands (although I still prefer my Harmony One over both the 1000 and 1100).
The 1100's feel and functionality ranked higher with the "girlfriend factor" (although she still prefers the HOne over both the 1000 and 1100).
