I'm looking to buy a harmony IR remote. Will it work through the glass door of my cabinet that contains my components? Or would I need an RF version?

I have very simple needs. I want to be able to:

- Turn my Onkyo receiver and TV on and off.
- Adjust volume
- Change channels which is controled by my Fios cable box.
- Switch to my Blue Ray DVD as an input source.
- Control the basics of my DVD such as fast forward, play, skip, stop, etc.
- Control my components through a glass door.
- That's about it.

What would you recommend as an inexpensive Harmony Remote hat will do the job?

Thanks again.
Irv

I've answered in your first post.

The Harmony should be able to do all that without trouble, barring any interference from the glass (read my reply in your first thread for more).

My Harmony One(and my old 520) had no problems working through the glass doors in my tv stand. For an inexpensive harmony I would probably recommend the 550, it is available for around $50 if you shop around online and it will control all the equipment you listed with no problem. I had the 520, the 550 is an updated version of that remote.

Yep. I thought that was kind of a funny answer, too. Considering my question was: will it work through glass. :)

XPAT, I saw your original reply, but since I don't have my system components set up yet, I can't test it. That's why I was asking the question.

Thanks again.

My 659 and 680 work fine through my moderately dark tinted glass cabinet doors.

hmmm ... yeah, that came out wrong ... what I mean is Harmony PR says many things like it will work with every IR device, etc ... technically should be no problem working through glass (just shining a flashlight through glass shows you that light passes through and IR is just light) but it could might not work in some strange scenario. OK I'm not sure what exactly I was trying to say, been working too many long hours, so I'll stop digging myself a deeper hole. =)

Good luck with your setup Irving, everything should work.
