The 'learn' part of the 880 remote is NOT the top of the
remote. It is the bottom of the remote.
Right, but assuming one follows the tutorial displayed on the computer, or if one called Harmony support, all should be OK. Joe, are you pointing the original remote at the bottom of the Harmony (opposite the end where the USB cable plugs in)?
Can you learn IR commands from any of your other remotes?? If the Harmony cannot learn commands from any other remote then maybe you have a defective IR learning port on the remote. Other than that, sounds like you've followed pretty much every trick in the book (short of standing on your head and clapping at the same time).
In extreme cases, you can also request to send your original remote to the Harmony head office in Canada so they can learn the commands for you in their lab. Alternately you could try learning the commands for your remote with another Harmony (perhaps one of your friends has a Harmony you could borrow).
One final note: the Harmony remotes can learn most but not all types of IR signals, especially those in higher frequencies or those emitting a high bit rate signal. This problem is known to occur with Bang & Olufsen remotes among others (Uverse is another that comes to mind, off hand). In this case, you would probably need to send your original remote to Harmony, or have the manufacturer provide hex/binary codes for the remote IR commands so that Harmony support can manually program the commands for you.
