Hi ALL,

I just ordered a One from Amazon and I already own an 880 so I'm very familiar with programming a Harmony remote. I want to keep the programming for the 880 so I went ahead and set up a new accnt for the One and I wanted to set up the devices and activities ahead of time. So I go and start that and after I input some info it wants to do a communications check with the remote that I don't yet have!! I canceled it and tried all the options it offers (e-mail, phone, troubleshooter, etc.) but after all of them it goes right back to the comm test. I closed the program and then re-started and it came back to the same point - the comm test!!! I even wanted to go back to my old 880 remote with the original accnt, but I can't do that either as every time I start the program it brings me right back to the new accnt for the One and right back to the comm test.

My One has shipped today so I should get it an a few days but I really wanted to have most of the programmng set up before it gets here. Does anyone know how to skip the comm test and go right to the device and activity setups.

Thanks,
Gerry

You can't skip the Comm test you have to have the Harmony One connected

yep, no way to do it. if your friend or neighbour has a harmony one, then you can setup the account using their remote and just replace it with yours when it comes in the mail. you can also contact harmony support and have them clone your existing 880 account and then replace the old remote with the new one (so now you have two accounts, one for the 880 and another for the one) so you don't have to do any programming (assuming you want to use the one with the same equipment as the 880).

Hi ALL,

Thanks for the help! I kind of figured you can't bypass the comm test and I already contacted tech support and they offered to clone my 880 accnt. I sent them the info to clone the accnt but I think I will still need the One to tell the cloned accnt which remote to convert to, so there's not too much I'll be able to do until I get the One.

I remember the good old days when the PC software wasn't that "smart" and there were all sorts of manual work arounds such as by passing the comm test. In fact the "tech tip" on the comm test page still says you can skip the comm test but you really can't!!

Thanks again,
Gerry

P. S. One of my neighbors once bought the 880, confident they could get it to work. I also voulnteered to help them out but within a day or two they returned it since it was too complicated for them. So I'm afraid no one I know would have a One for me to use to get past the comm test!!!
