...and comes preloaded on the soon to be released Harmony 1100...!

[Link: logitech.com]

Simply throw away your buggy 1000, and drop $600cdn at your local dealer for a fully functional 1000...!

But wait...there's more...! Not only do you get the firmware fixes you've been expecting for your old clunky 1000. Logitech has also included 4 bumps along side the touchscreen, and painted it black...!

...all kidding aside. I'd be pissed if I owned a 1000.

I can't agree more. The way that Logitech has treated buyers of the 1000 is despicable. Most companies would view the purchasers of their supposed "flagship" product to be their best customers. Logitech, on the other hand, over the past year has failed to place any resources to completely address the problems that have plagued the 1000 since its introduction. Sure, there have been some firmware fixes, but nothing that has completely solved the glitches inherent to the model. What did Logitech instead do since introducing the 1000? Hey...lets release a new handheld. We'll call it the One. More people will buy that than our top-of-line $500 Harmony 1000 anyway. So no need to address the 1000. Hey...here's another idea....Let's fix the 1000, paint it black, and call it the 1100. No one will ever suspect a thing. To show that we're good guys we'll charge the same price as the POS, oops, I mean the previous model. Ha Ha. Box em up & ship em out.

Logitech...are you listening? Do you want to do the right thing?? Go through your accounts and pull out all of those that belong to H1000 users. Then offer them a substantial "Trade-up rebate" towards the purchase of the new model. You may actually increase your bottom line revenue related to this particular product line. I'm available as an independant Marketing Consultant if necessary......

Sorry...I get crazy sometimes.

I've heard that hardware wise the two remotes are almost exactly the same (if not exactly the same) ... if that's true, it would mean the firmware from one is likely compatible with the other (probably just a different bootloader and/or remote "ID"). It's unlikely that Harmony marketing/execs would release the "1100" firmware for the 1000; they'd risk cannibalizing sales for their new remote.

It will be interesting to see if anyone can hack the 1000 to take the 1100 firmware.

The sad part is..someone will most likely have to do this for the themselves.

The timing of this is oddly correspondes with the restricked phone support announcement. I wouldn't want to listen to the customers I screwed over either.

Hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult, the 1000 of course runs on a Linux/Java platform so access is fairly easy. Figuring out the bootloader and firmware flash process may take a little. It would be necessary to somehow fool the Harmony software to thinking the 1000 is the 1100, or to remove the requirement of the software checking what remote is connected for the update.

Sorry, but aside from the clock that was always adverstised and never there, howdo you know there are ANY bug fixes? Curious as to how you have determined that.

There was a beta tester on another site talking about the 1100. He (?) went into minor detail about what has changed and what hasn't with this model.

One of the things mentioned was the various problems the 1000 was experiencing on the SW level.

the 1100 interface is totally overhauled, based on Flash rather than Java. with this will probably come a number of bug fixes, along with a number of other new bugs (for example, the 1100 no longer supports sequences; why? probably because the remote was crashing or the programming/engineering team didn't have the resources to properly implement the sequences feature. however, it now has a clock and supposedly the "repeating" volume up command problem is resolved.)
