With my new digital STB working w/ my DVDR, I'll access it, set up a recording, change to the correct STB channel and then want to go to another activity (like watch my digital TV on another channel w/o the STB). I need the STB to stay on to feed the DVDR when it comes on to record.
Is there a clean way to leave the STB on when switching the activity?
I thought about sending 2 power toggles when exiting (or should it be one?) but that seems silly and I don't really want to leave it on all the time.

I know something like this has been asked but I couldn't find anything by searching.

Thanks!
So, how do civilians do this stuff?

Go to device power options and choose "always on", the remote will then never send power commands to that device. You can then customize buttons for any activity and add a power button for that device to manually turn it on/off or use the HELP button.

OR if you want to maintain power control of the STB just use the "leave unused devices on" activity option. That way when you go to the other activity it won't turn the STB off. It will still turn it off when you hit OFF. If you want to leave it on even after hitting OFF then do what xpat says, but then you'll have to control the power manually.

The other option is to just leave the STB on all the time. They don't shut completely off anyway because they have to keep track of scheduled recordings.

good point akirby, that's another way of doing it ... just remember not to press OFF if you're recording something ;)

RE Akirby's reply-
So for the activities I might switch to after setting up a recording, I change to: leave power on under "settings", "change options".
This should satisfy the WAF on the new device, she can't stand seeing devices left on (even if they draw similar power when "off").
That's the kind of solution I was hoping for.
Thanks!

I think the wording is "leave unused devices on" and it's under each activity. To be safe I'd put that on all the activities - that way the only way the recorder will be turned off once it's on is to hit OFF.

If you need to leave the recorder ON sometimes even when you turn everything else OFF, just create an activity with only the recorder in it and DO NOT turn on the "leave unused devices on" option for that activity. When you select Recording activity it will turn off everything except the recorder. Then the next day you just select the activity you want normally.

One simple approach is to add the device to all activities. That is what I did for my STB (SA8300HD). Turns on once at the beginning of any activity session, then turns off when I press the Harmony "Off" button (at the end of the session).
