Newbie here...Just picked up a harmony 550. I have it programmed so I can Turn on DVD, Receiver, TV, etc...However, say I while watching a DVD I want to turn on my VCR and STB to record a show...is that doable? I have a Sony 3000 that allow you to switch to each device and turn the device on or off. I am not seeing where that is possible with this remote. Any help would be appreciated.

Press the device button on your Harmony and select the desired device.

You can also add the VCR and STB devices to your Watch DVD activity (or another Watch DVD activity with added VCR and STB devices) but this will also turn them on when the activity is selected unless you set their power settings to "there are no power buttons...". Note: You can add any device to an activity by reviewing the activity and selecting "Yes, but I want to add more control of options and devices for this Activity".

Or setup a Record TV activity that will turn on the VCR and STB, set the recording and switch back to Watch DVD. Just be sure to set the "leave unused devices on" option set to yes so it won't turn off the DVD player.

Press the device button on your Harmony, select the desired device, then press the desired hard or soft (LCD) key(s).

Once you select the device you have access to the devices' power buttons either on the LCD buttons or you can map them to an unused hard button.

And once done with device mode, press the device button again to switch back to the activity you were in.

perfect! Thank you for the help. I finally figured it out on the LCD side and now have assigned hard buttons for each device for power on and off! I think this remote will work after all.

Jlet...I noted you have a STR-DA5ES. I have owned mine for 4-5 years...love it so far.

Although the Harmony can emulate a device based remote, you should not give up on its activity switching capabilities now that you are more familiar with its programming. Using the activity approach will minimize the number of key you have to press. Revisit the option given by Akirby in post 3 above. The "leave unused devices on" option is under the Activity > Settings > Change Options. Note: Don't forget to set the option on all applicable activities (Watch DVD and Record TV in this example).

I just purchased the 550 hoping it will work with our new Sylvania since Comast doesn't have the right code. Will the programming CD work with Windows Vista? It says xp and 2000 on the box. Anyone know?

Don't bother with the CD. Get the latest Client Software for Vista online at: [Link: logitech.com]. Then get the latest Firmware for your model from the installed Client Software.
