Hi Folks,

Just purchased a Harmony 550, and figured I'd search for a forum for an answer to a question.

I am trying to control my Samsung LED DLP TV set, the HL-T5689S. Ran through the harmony setup guide, that was pretty easy, got it to power up and work.

Now when it comes to picking my input sources. The default is to use those left/right arrows just below the screen and pick the source from there. I tried to use the custom settings screen from the harmony setup page, so that I could just hit one key on the remote to bring up the Source page on the TV. instead, i still have to scroll through the left/right keys, then one of those options brings up the input source.

Guess i am trying to say is that has anyone been able to make one of the more prominent buttons, like Guide, or something like that become a programable key?

Hope I did not confuse anyone with my ranting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Sorry Folks,

I solved my own problem in regards to my TV set. I guess I was a little too quick to ask for help and not go over the instructions/software more carefully.

But I do have a Harmon Kardon Question that I have posted if anyone is able to help.

What was the solution to this? I think I'm having a similar problem and don't know the answer.

Here's my issue. Was this the same as yours?

I don't see a way for my Harmony 550 to select a source of input (e.g., TV, DVD Player, etc.). It can go to the source screen and that's where it gets hung up. Without the Harmony, just using my Samsung HDTV remote doing this manually, I select the "Source" button on the Samsung remote, then I use the Samsung remote's up-arrow or down-arrow to navigate to a source I want, then I press the Samsung remote's "Select" button to make the source screen go away. The Harmony should be able to get to the Source screen, but then what? It takes a human looking at the screen to know how many up-arrow pushes or how many down-arrow pushes are necessary to get to your desired source from the source you are at at that moment. Because there are no buttons on the Samsung remote dedicated to specific sources, there is no single IR signal that can directly select a particular source. The Samsung remote does not select a source by name. Logically, I see no way for the Harmony 550 remote to select the source input on a Samsung TV.

For those here - you set it up so that it cycles through the list ONE WAY only. The harmony knows how many inputs are in the list and where each one is in the list, and it knows where it is now. It dynamically calculates the number of input arrows that are necessary. That assumes of course that the harmony db doesn't have discrete inputs - it often does, even if they're not on the OEM remote.

... many devices support discrete input commands even if they are not on the OEM remote. Check and Test all the input commands in device mode to find out. Else, look for (and test in device mode) an "InputNext" cycling command.

Waynesol,

The solution to my problem was to use the phone tech support.

He set it up, so that each activity would just go directly to the imput instead of cycling through the list. I do not know how it was done, they said the samsung was a little difficult and they did it all for me over the phone/internet.

So now, on my 550, when I choose an activity, lets say Satellite. It turns on the tv and goes directly to HDMI1, does not cycle through the list of options. Then it turns on my amp and my satellite.

The people at tech support were very helpful.

Try them out

Mike

They probably changed the Adjust Inputs configuration to use Method 2 (discrete method) under "Device > Settings > Adjust inputs", and selected the correct discrete input command (from the drop-down list) to each input.

Hope someone can help me with my Harmony 550. I put in new batteries because it stopped responding to commands. It worked for one day and then suddenly again stopped working. Now all it says on the remote screen is "Welcome to your something or other." It had given me access to Watch TV, DVD, Radio, and Computer. Now, nadda. If it needs to reprogrammed, how do I do that? Please help. Pam M

You reprogram the remote the same way you did it the first time - via the Client Software user interface. The "Client Software User Interface > More Help > Contact Us" no longer list the support phone numbers. Now it provides only the email support interface.
