When I watch TV normally, I use just the volume on the TV. When I watch a movie that is on TV I use the volume through the surround sound system. When I watch TV through my surround sound system, there is a minimal delay in the audio as compared to the TV speakers, which causes an echoing effect between my surround sound speakers with the speakers on the TV. So normally when I switch to watching TV in surround sound, I have to turn the volume all the way down on the TV speakers, so I don't get the echoing of the sound. This causes me some trouble when setting up the remote.

I set up two different activities, one called "Watch TV", and one called "TV Surround". I tried to set up the TV Surround activity to send a signal to mute the TV speakers when using the Surround activity, but a big "MUTE" button shows up on my TV that is annoying. So what I did was program the remote to send a bunch of "volume down" signals to the TV when I press the "TV Surround" button, so that no volume is coming through the TV speakers. This works OK, but the problem is that there is a big delay of like 1 second between each press of the "volume down" button on the speakers. A one second delay isn't bad, but when you have to send twenty separate volume down signals to the TV, it is a nuisance to wait that long to start using the TV Surround activity.

Does anybody have any better suggestions as to how I might go about fixing this problem in an easier way?

I'm not sure if I'm explaining my problem well enough for you guys to help me, so if I can elaborate further, I'll try.

Thanks in advance!

You could try reducing the delays with the TV to speed it up, but the only other option is to see if your TV has an option to turn off the TV speakers (usually a menu option) and put those steps in the activity startup. Or just turn the TV volume down manually before or after you switch. Just add the TV volume commands to the LCD or unused hard buttons in the surround sound activity.

Good call with the setting the TV volume commands to the unused hard buttons in the surround sound activity. That's much simpler, even though its not as user friendly for my wife.

Thanks!

The menu option to turn off the speakers is the best, followed by turning down before leaving the first Activity, but as the third works that's fine!
