Hi, I have ordered an H1, which I hope will arrive soon, but while I'm waiting I'd like to learn a bit about how the remote works. I'm wondering about the H1's ability to set the output from my stb. I've seen many posts and gleaned some info about setting inputs, but not outputs.

My issue is this. I have a Foxtel (Australian cable provider) stb connected to my HDTV via component, which requires my stb to be set to output YUV, and an HDD/dvd recorder connected to the same stb requiring s-video output The stb has 2 outputs, but the second one only outputs composite or s-video!

In order to change the output I need to go through these menu steps using the foxtel remote:
settings> system setup (4 down arrow presses + select)>system settings (3 down presses +select)>picture settings (select)>video output ((3 down presses +select): then 2 right/left presses to select YUV or s-video: then 3 down presses to save settings (+select): then 3 back presses to exit.

TOTAL = 24 button presses

Is this doable on the H1? My initial expectation is NO, but I am hoping I'm wrong.

Any info much appreciated

Paul

Yes - by putting the commands into the activity startup and/or exit sequences. If you only use one device occasionally (DVD-R eg) then put the commands to change the output to Svideo in the startup sequence for the watch DVD-R activity and put the commands to change it back in the exit sequence. This will leave it on the component inputs so you don't have to go through the change sequence every time you watch cable. Or you just put the steps into each activity to ensure it's always on the right input but then you'd have to wait each time for the steps to complete.

Another option is to create 2 dummy activities - one for component and one for Svideo - that do nothing but change the input. Then you use those as needed.

As you can see the only way to issue that many commands automatically is at the beginning and end of an activity. But yes, it's certainly doable.

Any reason why you couldn't connect the recorder direct to the TV for its output, as well as to the receiver for its input? All those key presses must be quite a hassle!
