All,

I had some questions about the RF extendedr for the 890. I am looking to upgrade from an older URC remote that has an RF extender as well. The RF extender I have, in addition to having the plugs for the emitters, also has an "IR blaster" on the front of it. The RF extender is discretely mounted about six feet in front of my gear rack, and the blaster, well, blasts to the whole rack. Does the Harmony extender also have a blaster on it, or do you have to use the wired emitters?

Also, is the harmony extender that comes with the 890 compatible with the Harmony 1000 in case I decide to upgrade (I note on Logitech's site that the 1000 curiously does not include an RF extender)?

Finally, I presume from the info I have read on Logitech's site that the Harmony ONE does not have RF capability. Can someone confirm or deny that?

Thanks for the help,

JimK

The 1000 does support the extender.
The "One" does not support the extender.
I use the wired emitters with the 1000 and have each device assigned to a port(4 of them) on the extender. I have never used a blaster so can't help there.
The 890 does come with the extender is the same that you would use with the 1000.

Yes, the 890 RF Extender has an IR Blaster that actually is quite robust.

citico and SaltiDawg,

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

This seemed like the remote for me in terms of the form factor, I just read the user reviews for the 890 and they are mostly dismal. Are you guys having a good experience with yours?

Well, I took a chance on one of these last night. After I got it charged up, I did the first configuration pass in about 1/2 hour. The software works very well, though there are a few things that could be a little more simple.

I made 5 or 6 tweaks throughout the night, and will probably make a few more, but it is a 99% percent solution after one night, which I consider a win. The RF extender works great, although I dislike having to update it every time I reconfigure the remote. All in all it is a very nice product, which it should be for 300 clams.

Thanks again for the info guys.

Once you get it tweaked, you want have to do much to the configuration. The fact that you have to update the extender whenever you update the remote is a real pain. I don't know why the extender could not have been "dumb" like the URC remotes. Enjoy.

JK,
my wife and I love our 890 PRO. We do use the RF Extender and I also control a PS-3 seamlessly. Room lights are controlled by the remote also.

The ONLY glitch I have, and it is not an 890 issue, is that sometimes when I power everything down the receiver sometimes does not turn off. I'm quite sure it's a delay issue that I have been unsuccessful in resolving and I've tried a couple of times to get Tech Support to help. (Tech Support is great, I just haven't solved this prob. As I say, it is NOT a 890 issue - just me being lazy.)

It sounds like you have to increase the Inter-Device delay for the receiver

I agree. I've tried that but will revisit it. Thanks for the advice.

I love my 890 pro. Originally I only set up the RF for the cabinet components, but added it for the TV as well. Once the RF was set up I noticed my equipment was getting very hot. So I installed a cabinet fan and the best part is it is set up as part of all my activities. When I watch TV or DVD, or play the wii the fan turns on automatically. I did have to get tricky with turning it off as the off button does not control light. Simply fix: created an activity "good night" It turns all the equipment off and the lights.

Bought a floor fan that came with a remote. Of course it is now controlled by the Harmony. Only downside is the fan speed and power button are on signal, but it works great.

The wife just put up some Halloween lights and asked me to turn them off the other night. Being lazy I hooked them up to the cabinet lights so the Harmony now controls them as well.

I am planning on buying a few more light modules so at Christmas all the xmas stuff will also be Harmony controlled.

Only drawback with it, is it does not load the movie, I still have to get up for that!
